from the pollingreport link above

Quote:

Fred Thompson (R) Barack Obama (D)
8/7-13/07
35 ....................... 46

Fred Thompson (R) John Edwards (D)
8/7-13/07
32 ...................... 49

I'll go with the 17 point spread over the 11 point spread.

~~~
Everything could be different another week.
That's a relatively old poll.
Hmmm. Dobson doesn't like anybody. Such a pity.
Quote:
James Dobson, one of the nation's most politically influential evangelical Christians, made it clear in a message to friends this week he will not support Republican presidential hopeful Fred Thompson...
In a private e-mail obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press, Dobson accuses the former Tennessee senator and actor of being weak on the campaign trail and wrong on issues dear to social conservatives.
"Isn't Thompson the candidate who is opposed to a Constitutional amendment to protect marriage, believes there should be 50 different definitions of marriage in the U.S., favors McCain-Feingold, won't talk at all about what he believes, and can't speak his way out of a paper bag on the campaign trail?" Dobson wrote
Earlier this year, Dobson said he wouldn't back John McCain because of the Arizona senator's opposition to a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
Later, Dobson wrote on a conservative news Web site that he wouldn't support former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani should he win the Republican nomination. Dobson called Giuliani an "unapologetic supporter of abortion on demand" and criticized him for signing a bill in 1997 creating domestic-partnership benefits in New York City.
The Obama/Thompson spread remains the same in current polls.
I haven't been able to find a more recent Edwards/Thompson comparison poll.
So I'm going with it. For today's purposes.
It's a fairly typical poll.
In my excel file about match-up polls these are the polls that asked about both an Obama-Thompson and an Edwards-Thompson race:
Rasmussen, 21/23 August:
Edwards +14
Obama +4
Quinnipiac, 13 August:
Edwards +17
Obama +11
Rasmussen, 8/9/14 August
Edwards +6
Obama +7
Rasmussen, 26/31 July / 2 August
Edwards +11
Obama +6
Zogby, 14 July
Edwards +6
Obama +8
Newsweek, 21 June
Edwards +16
Obama +14
Pretty steady pattern there.
But what ebeth really should have voted is Romney. He does pretty consistently worst against the Dems of the four Republican frontrunners.
The problem with Romney (for me) is that I can't imagine him making it to the front of the Republican group. I "have" to support the Republican candidate who has a chance to become the candidate - who fares the worst against a Democratic candidate.
I can picture the manly-man getting there.
He did?
Huh.
He's... weird.
My favorites are Fred Thompson
and Ron Paul,
but the calculator matched me up with Tancredo.
Huckabee and Brownback are very good too.
My criteria are promotion of personal freedom and individualism,
at the expense of the [domestic] power of government,
and opposition to collectivism and authoritarianism.
The calculator correctly put Hillary & obama at the bottom of my barrel.
OmSig - so far on this thread we have avoided a lot of insult hurling. Yes, I know edgar said something, but not on the level you just did.
Most of us are interested in seeing how the poll results work out, and are not interested in the usual disparagement bouts.
It would be courteous to not do that.
