Hey, Roger. You snuck in when I was typing. My lungs have a mind of their own. They don't listen to you--or me. Maybe the Ozzian wabbit can whip them into shape. She's one tough bunny. If I was a lung, I'd listen to her.

@msolga,
On my computer it appears that I sent you an X & not the delightful critter I found for you, Roberta.
The same for you?
Tell me & I'll find you another. (Damn! Rolling Eyes )

The rent situation is that bad? Now I'm really worrying ..
I wish I was rich & could pay it all for you, Roberta. You don't need this on top of the rest! Sigh.

@Roberta,
I hope you're having a good sleep right this very minute - getting energy to edit and fine-tune and make another book readable.

I spent the weekend coughing, working, and worrying.

I'm now starting to get panic attacks. Hate that wretched retching.

Otherwise, I'm fine.

@Roberta,
Roberta, please do not let your daily living expenses become a factor especially when this increases stress that will interfere with your recovery.

There are a number of social agencies that can help you with rent and other critical expenses until you can handle these on your own. Talk with a social services person at Ballevue or call Catholic Charities--they can help or refer you to people who can. If you are a church going person be sure your minister or priest knows of your situation. There are any number of agencies who can and will help with rent etc. in a time of crisis. If pride is a factor here, not to worry. You swallow it, ask for and accept any help that is available, and then repay it in time and/or contributions when you are back on your feet.

Foxfyre, I'm not proud. And living expenses are a major concern. I have a social worker who has applied to a number of agencies for me for money. So far, nothing.

Not sure what to do on my own.

Thinking about selling my grandmother's engagement ring and my great aunt's cocktail ring. My mother's wedding ring. Hate to part with them. Not even sure whether I could get enough money to make a difference.

Tired. It's hard for me to think clearly.

As for all the good wishes, oys, and hugs, I say thanks. Can't have too many hugs, and there's no such thing as too many oys.

@Roberta,
I'm going to make darn sure what "oy" means, before I start tossing it around in public.

@Roberta,
Mega hugs Roberta and a whole bunch of oys.

Be sure your social worker is aware of this state agency (or you look into it yourself.)
NEW YORK STATE OFFICE OF TEMPORARY AND DISABILITY ASSISTANCE
http://www.otda.state.ny.us/main/programs.asp

And don't overlook groups like Catholic Charities. No, I am not and have never been Catholic, but I know that most of these organizations, especially in the larger cities, do have temporary rent assistance programs for persons in crisis. There are lots of other faith based organizations that do also, but Catholic Charities is often the largest, best organized, and has the most resources to work with. All social workers, especially those with less experience in helping people just plain survive, may not be aware.

Oy vey. And more hugs.

Foxfyre, Thanks for the advice and info (and oys and hugs). I applied for disability several months ago. Turned down. I can still work. My social worker discussed the situation with an expert, who said that the kind of work I do makes it almost impossible for me to get disability.

I know that she's applied to a bunch of charities. I'll ask her about the Catholic charities.
