@Izzie,
Hiya Iz, Asthma not good. I started taking the steroids again. Phooey. My stomach has been misbehaving. I think it's nerves.

I finished one small editing job. Working on a proofreading job.

I woke up at 6:30 p.m. Late, even by my standards. I guess i was tired.

There's white stuff on the ground. I used to get snow euphoria. Not I get snow--oh nos. I gotta venture out tomorrow. I'll see how the sidewalks look.

I already thanked you for the glorious sky pics. Thanking you again.

I hope all is well with you.

I was at Bellevue today--two appointments. The first was for the redrawing of blood. My last presurgery blood test was too long ago. They needed new blood. I saw a doctor along the way. Mentioned that I'd like someone to take another look at my throat. Also mentioned that I was once two days from surgery when someone took a look and nothing was there. After making myself a gentle but insistent pain in the ass, I got them to look again. Yes, there's still something there. The head of surgery happened to be present. He agreed with the head of ENT--doesn't think it's cancer, but it's got to be checked. While they're at it, they may be able to improve my voice. We'll see.

From there, I had to go for my presurgery clearance. After a mere 2 hours and 45 minutes of waiting, I got seen. Nurse practioner, nurse, and anesthesiologist.

I'm cleared. However, if I'm wheezing on the day of surgery, the deal is off. I now have another prescription for steroids. They should keep me breathing in both directions until after the biopsy.

I see the internist on Friday. The surgery is next Tuesday.

I'm discovering that I'm almost as good at being a pain in the ass as I am at kvetching. I wonder if the two are related.

@Roberta,
Wouldn't it be great if you got some of your old voice back?

Sorry it's still something. Like that they don't think it's cancer.

Yes, being a pain in the ass in a good way is related to kvetchiness.

@Roberta,
Definitely related, I say adamantly.
Glad you could get through to those doctors, especially the surg head.
Thinking of you..

Having them take another look made me feel better, even though there's something there. I admit to being dubious about the whole thing. Combine my doubt with the torture I've been through just to have the damned biopsy, and you've got an old, feeble goil who can't get past an asthma attack.

Not seeking to get my voice back, but I confess that I would love to be able to hum again. Not looking for all out singing. But a hum would be nice.

Thanks to edgar and FM for the good wishes.

Deb and osso. I'd appreciate some enlightenment. How are kvetching and being a pain in the ass related. I should be able to see the connection, but my brain is on hold these days.

@Roberta,
Keen perception of what is going on (or assessment of what is not happening) required for both.

@ossobuco,
RH, I once suggested to Dys that I was a poopity head. He was adamant that I am not a poopity head. I was cut to the quick--and mystified. Was he wrong?

osso, I see the connection between quality kvetching and keen perception, but I don't see the link to pain-in-the-ass-ness. Or is it pain-in-the-ass-dom. I guess I'm being thick.

@Roberta,
Well, I'm just riffing here, but the awareness you had, say, of the possibility the thing wouldn't be there at this point and should be checked was reasonable, and the courage (ahem) to point this out despite possibly being taken as a pain in the ass is generally a good asset. I've had it work myself a time or two. I suppose there are limits, of course.

Anyway, the kvetch (awareness) and the courage to be a pain about it are, in this situation, going hand in hand, thus related.

@ossobuco,
RH, Enlighten me. What is the Jewish word for poopity head? Knowledge is power.

This wouldn't be something to kvetch and kvell about. This would be something that could start a whole new religion. A post-menopausal woman who had a hysterectomy is pregnant!!?? If miracles are in the offing, maybe I could have a puppy. What do you think? Throwing in an oy just on general principle. Also throwing in an, "And the angels sing."

Ragman, I usually take a very pragmatic view of such things. But I'm due for a win. Thanks.

osso, Courage? I didn't see it that way. But who am I to argue? I just wanted to find out whether the thing was there. Didn't know I was gonna see a doctor. Took advantage of the situation.

What snow? A few inches. Melted. No boots yesterday. Thanks for asking.

@Roberta,
Sorry to hear your boots melted. How are you getting around in the snow?

@roger,
Not gonna snarl at you, Roger.

The snow here in the Big Apple was minimal. There is no longer any snow on the sidewalk. There are icy patches in the gutter. I did not wear boots yesterday, partly because I didn't need them and partly because I didn't want to sit around all day wearing boots.

My boots did not melt. Well, they were intact the last time I saw them.

I hope this clears things up for you.

Smart ass.
