@Roberta,
Laughing away here at your spontaneous outburst with the pipsqueak, Roberta.
How dare she tell you that having staples removed from your head "didn't hurt"!
And for treating you like you were a mannequin!
After all you'd been through.
The nerve! Evil or Very Mad

I've been assertive in other ways.

Yes? Smile
Oh I would be interested to hear more!
But only if you feel so inclined, of course.

@Butrflynet,
I am so for the Oxford comma (well, when I use it).

@Butrflynet,
I know I'm long addicted to tridots, as they so speak for me...

@Tai Chi,
Wonderful to see you here, Tai.

Not so assertive lately. Drifting back into depression. I saw the psychiatrist on Wed. We both agree that I should resume therapy. Sigh and phooey.

@Butrflynet,
As a former technical writer, I ran into that comma usage dynamic often. It took me a few years to consciously not balk when eliminating it.

Speaking of depression issues, I'm depressed because I don't know if I'm clinically depressed or just garden-variety depressed. I've been receiving disability (cardiac arrhythmia etc.) for more than 2.5 yerars os I cannot work full time. Part time jobs are scarce but not rare where I live (outside of the retail environs). I looked at the big picture of my financial situation in sharp detail..and it's official - it's clinical depression!

@Roberta,
((( Roberta )))

Glad you felt relaxed and refreshed for a time. Sorry it's not lasting. Do you think there's a seasonal (SAD) component that could be helped with a high lumen lamp?

@JPB,
JPB, No, I don't think the time of year has anything to do with how I'm feeling. Extreme isolation is more likely the cause. I haven't seen anyone other than doormen, cab drivers, doctors, and store cashiers since November. Total isolation.

I'm also worrying about money. That always contributes to the problem.

Sorry to hear you're depressed as well. Phooey to that.

In my neck of the woods and in my business, the comma in question is called a series comma. Every book publisher I've ever worked for has required the series comma. On the other hand, many newspapers and magazines, don't use them. Why? Ask 'em. I got other stuff to worry about.

Every publisher that I know of has its own house style that all the writers, editors, and proofreaders must follow.

IMO, the series comma is a good clarifier.

@Roberta,
Rallies in agreement re the series comma!

Roberta, dollink, you know I wanna visit you. Oh, well. But I completely enjoyed it when I did, it's one of the happy memories. Fond of a remaining image of you waltzing into the bar/waiting area of the Pierre au Tunnel, three new yorkie* women meeting for a meal.
*only Roberta counts, but us other two got connections.

@Roberta,
I'm so sorry you are feeling low darling Boida...

Hmmm... it's been a horrid day here ... a lot goes on in my world over the next few days and we're feeling it...

I would give you every bit of positivity in the woild, but I know at the moment you may not be able to receive it, and of course, may not wish for that... but please know you are in my thoughts... and talk when you wish...

can you start art therapy again, it made such a difference to your self esteeen

it does get hard when isolated unless it's a choice... what happened to the ESL tutoring...

Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, I am wishing you well and I worry for you too. I love you Boida... I do understand, I just wish there was something we could do to give you a lift.

((((((((((((((Boida)))))))))))))))))) xxxxxxxx

@Roberta,
Just saying g'day on this exquisite Sunday morning, Roberta.
I wish I could post a little sunshine (not too much ... just enough! Smile ) to you.
But I do understand how you're feeling.
Extreme isolation & worrying about money at the same.
Just dealing with one of those would be enough to cause anyone to feel down in the dumps.
Phooey to that!

I'm with you on this.
If there aren't sufficient commas, sometimes I find myself reading the same not-so-easy-to-follow sentence over a few times ... mentally inserting the commas (or breaks) to figure out what the writer actually meant to say.
I guess old habits die hard.

I can relate to the feelings of isolation. I've decided to join a church and take classes to force myself to get out of the house. Money notwithstanding, what would you like to do that you aren't doing?

Thanks to everybody for trying to help. I appreciate it, and it helps a little.

If all goes well, I'll be resuming regular therapy. I believe that art therapy is out of the question. That was done as a special favor to me. The head of the art therapy department came to see me weekly. It was outside the range of her responsibilities. Why this was arranged for me and why she did it for so long will remain a kind of mystery.

Izzie, the tutoring was not what I expected. When I did it years ago, I loved it. This time, I didn't enjoy it at all. I had asked for somewhat experienced students. Got two beginners. The room we met in was crowded and noisy. My throat was sore by the end of the session.

I've been investigating volunteering in my neighborhood. So for, not much luck. I'm also considering (reluctantly) going to one of the senior centers in the area.

I haven't had any work since the beginning of December. Another cause for concern.

If I could do anything, what would it be? Relax. Maybe do something with animals. I've considered that. The work that's available would not be for me.

Sigh. Let's face it. I'm my usual pain in the ass. And now I'm a depressed pain in the ass. A dynamite combination. But lovable.

Osso, Pierre au Tunnel! Didn't forget the meeting. Just forgot where it was. Thanks for the reminder. I loved that place. Smiling.

Gonna try to do something today. One thing at a time makes it easier.

@Roberta,
That's now a semi famous a2k place, as Frank and Joe Nation and Dys and Diane and Bernie and Lola had dinner there maybe a year after you and Diane and I did. Theirs was more... eventful. Apparently it's no longer in business.

(I think I got the names right.. mixing a2k user names, but what the hell)
