You could pretend the money is coming from bunny fairies.

Now that's funny. I've had a really rough day of work deadlines and pressure and that's just what I needed. A real belly laugh. Thanks!

Pausing and reflecting on the idea of people here sending me money. My first reaction was sure. Now I'm not so sure. This makes me uncomfortable. Forcing myself to put desperation aside and view the reality of it. Not comfortable. I need to think about this some more.

Oprah, on the other hand, no problem.

Playing catch up with my work.

I'm so tired that even I--a person who makes a living (almost) with words--can't find the right one to convey the extent of the fatigue. I'll work on it.

People offered to help me with my vet bills. I was feeling similarly to the way you must be feeling now. I didn't take them up on it, but my bills were smaller than yours will be. 10 bucks per person is no hardship.

One thread isn't enough. I gotta report in two places?

It's a small neighborhoody place that's been there a long time. The prices are not as low as they used to be, but it's not expensive.

I had a Caesar salad and mussels with linguini. Thomas had mozzarella and tomatoes and lasagna. We ordered one dessert. A lemony thing with fresh whipped cream.

As for how am I doing? Today, good and bad. Busy getting ready to go somewhere other than the hospital. I liked that. Actually put on a pair of earrings.

Got home and am still trying to catch up on my work. I'm so tired, I'm having trouble focusing my vision. And I'm struggling mightily to pay attention.

I was bored silly with the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. Enjoyed a few events earlier this evening. I used to be an Olympics fanatic. Don't know if I can work up the ardor.

I'm hanging in--and on. More or less. Mostly less.

Just saying g'day & encouraging you to keep hanging in there as best you can, Roberta.

Thanks for the "meal report". I find these food details utterly fascinating, as you know!

Sorry to hear that you're finding it difficult to concentrate on work (Not at all surprising!) , but that you have to do it anyway .... Sigh.

My fondest thoughts to you, Roberta.

Well to begin with, bunny, we both agreed we'd like to meet you in person. Hop over to New York already!

Then there is Roberta's top-secret project. She is currently redacting John McCain's book: "What next: Which countries to invade in the global war on terror, now that the surge has succeeded." Roberta is having way too much fun editing McCain's "to invade" list, and swapping the countries' names on the maps. "The American system of education", she commented, "has tought our readers nothing. They'll never notice."

What Roberta politely omits is that I got to eat many of her mussles with linguini too. She took very good care of me.

Is that visual onomatopoeia?

If so...cool! If not...how ironic. You DID have some American eddication, I think?

I would hop all too happily, had I aught to pay for the hopping.

The idea of changing the countries in McCain's book is delicious.

I have always felt....given Bush's international knowledge...that Italy was very lucky not to be invaded instead of Iraq.

But it does have an extra syllable to protect it.

Just kindergarten. That must be why my Mother Goose is so rusty.

Let's see ... what did we talk about ...

  • Roberta asked me what forums I hang out in. I told her that I don't really go by forum. I just look at the recent posts by my favorite posters, and write to whatever threads they have already written to. She thinks that's a good system, and asked me who those posters are. I told her. (I won't repeat the names here, but I think it's pretty obvious who they are, anyway.)

  • we talked a lot about other A2Kers we like, and also about those we dislike. The lists pretty much match. There were two notable exceptions to this rule, and there are a few people in the political threads I like, and Roberta doesn't know because she doesn't do political threads. (No names here, again.)

  • Roberta kvetched about proof-reading nightmares, such as the cookbook with the chicken recipe without chicken in it, or recipies with a list of ingredients but no instructions what to do with them. She plans to write a book about those nightmares, and regrets she didn't start collecting them earlier. (She said she also had a thread about them on A2K. I'd be interested in a link.)

  • I asked Roberta about the Bronx and the Upper East side, and she told me a lot about both.

(and -- sorry -- our conversation about the McCain book didn't happen. I made that up.)

I asked about Thomas's work. A scientist. I asked about his family in Germany.

We talked a bit about da Bronx. He asked me about my current neighborhood. And we talked about rent stabilization. He asked me about Brooklyn. I explained that people from the Bronx don't know about Brooklyn.

He remarked about the noise on Lexington Ave and asked if it bothered me. I can tune out a lot.

I carried on a bit about the deterioration of the American education system. I also carried on a bit about my views on aging (I got a wrinkle? I earned that wrinkle. I don't want no steenkin' face lift.)

I talked about the differences between editing online and editing on hard copy.

We talked about our favorite and not so favorite a2kers.

We talked about stuff.

I am NOT editing a book by or about John McCain, but I am editing a book with a political orientation. I can tune out a lot--like the noise on Lexington Avenue.

Thomas, here's the link to the thread I started about editing/proofreading nightmares:
