@msolga,
Olga, I started a thread many years ago about the Nazi spoon. Here's the link:

Thomas doesn't even bother ordering appetizers anymore. He knows he's gonna get some of my food.

There's that, but I'm also losing weight for the Providence , RI, Marathon on May 1st. I'll be back to devouring their delicious steamed dumplings on May 2nd.

MsOlga, by all means do come! Roberta and I would be thrilled to take you to Pig Heaven and steal food from you.

Back from Bellevue. Went to see the social worker on the spur of the moment. Got two notices from Medicaid yesterday that I had to show up for two physical exams--one in Queens and one in lower Manhattan. They were both scheduled for days I had other appointments. I called the number at the bottom of the letter. Nobody knew what I was talking about. Also, I had to bring information with me I had no idea how to get.

Social worker helped. She got me the info I didn't know how to get, and I now have one appointment, tomorrow, in Queens. I can't do the subway or buses. Called a car service. $45 one way plus tolls and tip. Thud. I will be reimbursed theoretically.

I had a bit of cash. Shouldn't have bought food last night. Sigh.

Friday, MRI. I'm tired.

When will I do my tax stuff. Looks like it will be the weekend.

I gotta wind down and go to sleep. Better late than never.

Back from Queens (of all places). Met with a psychiatrist and a medical doctor. I have a sickening feeling that they're not gonna find me disabled for the work I do. Then I'll lose my Medicaid--and maybe my mind.

Saw Thomas briefly. He had to give me something he didn't give me when we saw each other. What was he doing in Queens? Picking up a number for the MARATHON he's running on Sunday. Whatta guy.

Surprised myself with my feistiness. I went out in the streets of Queens to see if I could get a cab to take me home. I walked to where I thought I saw cabs. I had no idea it was a gypsy cab place. I was standing there looking like I was looking for a cab, and a gypsy pulled up. He opened the window. I told him I was going to Manhattan. We negotiated. I opened the door to get in. A very large person of the male persuasion came up behind me and said, "Didn't you see me standing there?" I said "Where?" He said, "It's cold. That's my cab." I said, "It's cold. I'm old. I'm tired. I'm getting in. "
Not only did I get in, but he closed the door for me.

On our way back to Manhattan, I got to see the full Manhattan skyline--something I haven't seen in a very long time. I got misty-eyed. I love that sight. I love my hometown.

Feisty and softy in the same afternoon.

@dlowan,
Just a feeling I got. Won't know for a while.

This happened when I applied for disability. They see me sitting in my apartment at the computer. I can do that! Hissssssssss.

@Roberta,
You have a social worker, right? Remember that the disability stuff is often a long, red-tape-festooned process. A "no" now (even if you get one) isn't necessarily a permanent "no."

But, sure hope it's a yes now.

@sozobe,
soz, What I'm applying for an extension of Medicaid for the Working Disabled. They accepted me originally without a physical/psych evaluation.

I have a lawyer who might help me. I'll let him know what's going on.

@sozobe,
Talked to lawyer (a wonderful service the Cancer Clinic at Bellevue provides). He said not to worry. Look who he's telling not to worry. He said that if I'm rejected, we'll appeal.

I'm exhausted. In addition to schlepping to Queens and worrying about Medicaid, there's other stuff going on behind the scenes, so to speak.

If I didn't have to go for the steenkin' MRI tomorrow, I'd be lumping and thudding all over my apartment.

Saturday will be lump day. Sunday, taxes. Feh.

Long enough to teach me that it's futile to say the words "don't worry about it" to Roberta. In the future, I resolve to say "find something else to worry about" instead. (And, it's just a half-marathon, not a marathon. Not that it matters to this thread.)

PS: The view of Manhattan from Interstate 278 is indeed amazing. It's the reason I often recommend that people fly into La Guardia rather than Newark or JFK. Good job on the taxi. I know you haggled a good price out of him because I watched you haggle in the Diamond District.

@Thomas,
Back from Bellevue. Got my brain magnetically imaged. Another get up at the crack of dawn day. I'm gonna have a snack and get some sleep.

Next week, the barrium swallow, and I'll resume my therapy.

Thomas, This is poifect. I can always find something else to worry about. It will lift my spirits and my self-image to be able to do this with ease.

ha, you made me chuckle Boida - I'm gonna have to find me a way to figure how to do this on the school's laptop... my kitties desperately wish to say "mew'ello" to you, and his friend HoibieCousinPartDeux paid us a visit too. Very Happy

@dadpad,
By all means, continue, dadpad. Maybe you should start a separate thread--How Many Ways Can We Find to Call Roberta Stupid?

View it as a communal challenge.

(There are lots of things I'm sensitive or self-conscious about. Stoopid ain't one of 'em.)

Thanks for the good wishes.
