@Roberta,
I'm just rereading this. I'd voice your problem on waiting for the ambulette to higher ups. You need support to wait.

Or at least I'd quack to my mds. Better to the facilities director.

(Remember me and the benches, and suddenly miracle benches. It ended up having nothing to do with my complaint. But, hey.)

@Roberta,
Waaah. Not waaah from dismay, but joy.

(The beagle next door is barking as I type this. I presume he says hello.)

@Izzie,
Iz, perfect description:

You did so well getting oot and aboot. So so pleased for you that you had the energy to do it and know they will all have benefitted from meeting you - how could they not, pretty darn inspirational to meet "the Kvetching Boid", even if you wouldn't think so!

And then, here she is, our Boida, denying that anyone really thinks she's terrific and denying that anyone benefitted from meeting her. Hogwash!!

Iz, I don't know whether it's occurred to you but you have just a slight bias in your view of me. I ain't that terrific, and I doubt that anyone benefitted from meeting me, aside from getting some damned fine deli food.

Back from Bellevue. Saw the docs about my inability to walk. Nothing physical was apparent. I was advised to lose the weight I put on when I was on the steroids and to walk a little every day. The extra weight and disuse may be the problem. The disuse is exacerbated by the fact that I'm still having trouble breathing, so I can't walk from lack of breath.

Seeing the asthma docs on Wed.

@Roberta,
Although gradually increasing exercise does increase your lung capacity...it's a fine balance, eh?

When I was a kid and there were basically no asthma treatments except adrenaline slowly injected into the arm in acute attacks, swimming was the thing they all recommended.

Not suggesting you swim!!! But I sure do know the feeling of having an attack while exercising.

Back from Bellevue. Remember the movie "The Longest Day" about WWII? Today was a contender for that title.

Had to be at the hospital at nine. Bad. Who the hell can operate at such an ungodly hour? How will I get a cab at the height of rush hour? Good. Not a whole lot of people will be there ahead of me.

Arranged for an ambulette service (free) to pick me up at 8:15. Managed to get 75 minutes of sleep. Got myself together and got a call from the ambulette service. Accident on the FDR Drive. Delays. They said I should be ready at 8:30 to 8:45. Got picked up at nine. Gee, what time did you say your appointment was? Nine! Instead of going directly to the hospital, we had to pick up somebody all the freaking way across town. (The hospital is on the East River; this sucker was on the Hudson.) According to an old NYC joke, the best way to get across town is to be born there.

Got to the hospital at 10:30. Was trapped in the ambulette with a driver who wouldn't stop complaining about traffic. (JHC, why are you driving in NYC if you can't stand trafffic?) One other passenger kept turning up the volume on the radio when the driver wasn't looking. The two new arrivals. were just delightful. One sang the whole time. The other whistled. Not a tune. Just made whistle noises. And moi. What was I doing? I was snurkling (sulking/snarling).

Where on the huge floor was the asthma clinic? The farthest distance from the elevator without being out on the street. I thought as I trudged to the desk that it was some kinda test. If I didn't drop dead from the walk, I was treatable.

Got to Desk E to learn that I had to register at Desk C. Back and forth she goes.

There were lots of people at E. Most of them wouldn't have been there ahead of me if the ambulette had been on time. Got to see the doctor at 1:45.

This doctor appeared older than 12. I'm guessing midteens.

I was impressed with her, and I liked her. Lots and lots of questions. She postulates that some of my breathing problems may not be asthma but swelling in my throat that closes my airways. Makes sense. What does this mean? More tests. I got a bunch of new prescriptions and a bunch of new appointments. Got home at 3:15-ish.

I gotta eat and get some sleep.

Just reread this post. The Kvetch Queen lives!!

@Roberta,
Long live the Kvetch Queen! (It would be a nice break, though, if you weren't always handed ample ammunition.)

(A break for you, I mean! We love your kvetching!)

And now I really understand why waiting for the ambulette is a giant pain.

Couldn't fall asleep when I got home. Ate and watched some tv. Couldn't fall asleep again. Hey, why am I trying to sleep. I got 75 minutes of sleep since Monday.

Why am I tossing and turning? Money!! Probably gonna have to sell some jewelry. Not something I don't care about, but stuff I like. Feh, phooey, and fie.

Had fun when Deb was here. One on one fun and group fun. Come back, bunny. I need another dose.
