Well done (on your first official outing)! Not at all surprised you're very tired after all that!

So what's for dinner? People want to know.

I had chicken parmagiana for dinner. It was especially good. I think it was the sauce. I make the sauce the same every time, but sometimes it tastes better than others. Pounded the hell out of the chicken. Made two pieces of chicken. One for tomorrow.

Got to watch the whole parade on TV. We Noo Yawkers know how to celebrate:

http://media.nbcnewyork.com/images/600*450/yankees-parade-9.jpg

An estimated 3 million people showed up. I guess I'm not the only Yankee fan. Just the only one in my apartment. Not Yankeed out yet, but I guess I'll have to wait for spring training to get another fix.

Speaking of fixes, I got to pet a smiling dog today. That's like a fix. And rode up in the elevator with a giggly baby. Another fix.

Bethie, I got compliments on the hat (the blue one).

Oh, the social worker is stopping by on Monday. And I have an appointment with the lawyer for next Friday. He's gonna help me with the scary stuff that arrived in the mail.

The swelling is down a little, I think.

Sglass, Thanks for the kind invitation. You mean to tell me that Andy would welcome a Yankee fan? Not likely that I'll be anywhere near Hawaii, but it's nice to know there's a place for me there. For now, the only big island I'll be on is Manhattan.

Are you telling me that Lucy's not a Yankee fan? Gasp.

Soz, Lucy is a cat. Not a live cat, but a feline toy. It's been my experience that cats don't give a rat's ass about sports. However, she was with me throughout the whole series. Very tactile. She fulfilled her toy feline raison d'etre--providing me with comfort.

Deb: Here's my chicken parmagiana recipe, starting with the tomato sauce.

Tomato sauce

1 large can of tomato puree
1 small can of tomato paste
one large onion
1-2 cloves of garlic
olive oil
basil
oregano
sugar
salt

1. Empty the can of puree into a large pot.
2. Add 1/2 can of water. Mix.
3. Throw in about a teaspoon each of:
sugar
salt
Stir
4. Throw in about a tablespoon each of
oregano
basil
Stir
5. In a large skillet, heat some olive oil.
6. Add one onion chopped relatively fine.
7. Add garlic clove(s) chopped fine.
8. Stir.
9. Cook until onions start to carmelize.
10. Start adding tomato paste a spoonful at a time. For every spoonful of paste, add a spoonful of water. Stir until the paste is liquefied.
11, Keep adding the paste and water until the can is empty. Let this cook with the onions and garlic until steam rises from the pan. Then dump the mixture into the pot with the puree. Stir.
12. Cook covered for at least 1/2 hour. Then cook with a crack in the cover to thicken the sauce. At least another 1/2 hour. The smell will be divine.

Chicken

Get chicken breasts, preferably butterflied.
One breast is usually enough for one meal.
Pound the hell out of the breast.
Heat olive oil in a pan.
Cover the pounded breast with Italian bread crumbs, salt and pepper.
Saute the breasts until they are brownish on both sides. They don't have to be cooked through because they're gonna cook some more.

Heat the oven to 350 deg.

In a small baking pan add a layer of sauce. Then put in the chicken breast. Then cover the breast with more sauce. Put this in the oven for about 1/2 hour. The sides of the sauce should be brownish. Top the breast with slices of mozzarella cheese. Cook for a few minutes until the cheese is melted.

Remove from the oven. Put the breast on a plate. Add grated parmagiano cheese. Eat and make mmmmmmmmy noises.

You can make veal parmagiano by exchanging veal medallions for chicken breasts. I prefer the veal, but I can't afford it. The chicken tastes just fine.

If you try this, let me know how it comes out. ENJOY

@Roberta,
What do you pound with?

@sozobe,
Personally I'd use the bottom of a heavy pan (wrap the chicken in plastic first), or a lid if heavy enough. I have cast iron, which works rather nicely -- I've used it on boiled potatoes in ziploc bags. Something similar, Roberta?

PS How you feelin', sugar?

I have one of these:

But any kind of pounder will do.

How am I feeling? Eh. Less swollen--very good. But my jaw is still sore, and it's still hard to open my mouth. Pain pangs. Pulling. The anitseizure meds are making me goofy. Well, goofier than usual.

@Roberta,
I blame YOU, Miss Roberta, for my recent craving for chocolate brownies.

I don't even like chocolate.

Weird, eh. Long distance cravings.

After my latest adventure <blech> with the dentist, and before I went to pick up the new puter, I stopped off at Metro to pick up a few groceries. No brownies, but I did bring home a nice cranberry/choco miche.

Sending hugs and chocolatey thoughts.

Love ya (and the blue bucket hat).

HaHa!

I know, ehBeth!

Roberta has a very potent long distance impact! It's like she casts a spell on one, or something ...

Who'd have thought, that in faraway Oz, I'd become a mad keen supporter of the NY Yankees?

I'm amazed by this turn of events, really ......... Surprised Confused Razz Laughing

Bethie, I hope you enjoyed the miche, whatever that is. Looking around my living room, which is filled with stuff from you. Thanks again, kiddo.

Olga, There's no such thing as too far away to be a Yankee fan. The winningest team in the history of U.S. sports. I said to my therapist that the team not only lifted my spirits because it's my old neighborhood team and it won but because it's got plenty of cuties, some of whom have very nice tushies. Great coming and going. Mr. Green

Had a very bad day yesterday--sinus headache. Remnants remain today.

The social worker just left. Very helpful.

Tomorrow I get my staples out. The doctors are gonna hear it from me.

@Roberta,
I was worried you weren't well yesterday, Roberta. Unusual for you not to post here, at least once.

I hope the "remnants" of yesterday aren't too debilitating.

Great about the staple removal tomorrow. Apart from everything else, you'll be able to smile without discomfort. Smile

Yeah, give those doctors heaps! Incredible that you haven't been able to see a doctor (till tomorrow - about time!!!) after such serious surgery! (Tell em your friends are royally pissed off with them, too!! Evil or Very Mad Wink )

Has anybody suggested you take some sort of painkiller before you get the staples out? (Might be a bit uncomfortable.)

I'm sure this isn't what they're gonna use but I can't get the image out of my head...
