@CalamityJane,
Gadzooks, that avatar is cute.

Roberta, I'm sending wishes that these post surgery pains fly away...
like quail. (This is my quail loving week, saw some yesterday and what a spirit lift they are.)

I was insufficiently scary for Halloween. Frankenstein scars just don't cut it anymore.

Sorry Roberta, but my generation was raised on sights as tough as the Adams Family. You, on the other hand, didn't even have so much as a bolt through your head. I was so disappointed. Listen, a black eye and a few lame staples in the forehead simply is no longer enough. You better work hard on your scariness, or you won't prevail in this competitive Halloween season.

PS: While you're at it, you need to lose that sense of humor of yours, too. A kid that giggles is a kid that isn't scared.

(Nods.) When your situation isn't scary enough, you need to call in the A-Team. We'll make it scary for you.

I do NOT have a cat. I have a cat toy Sheila got for me. Her name is Lucy. She's white, soft, and has a pink ribbon around her neck. I let Thomas and Dorothee pet her. Very tactile.

Can't help the sense of humor, Thomas. It's as much a part of me as green eyes. They're still green, aren't they? Bronx accent. And being good at word games.

Sorry about the absence of neck bolts. (Everybody has to kvetch about something.)

I've been taking some antiseizure meds, which I think are making me feel ookier than I might otherwise feel. I asked why I have to take antiseizure meds if I haven't had a seizure. So I don't have one.

I'm taking so many pills, I rattle when I walk.

The visiting nurse should show up in the p.m. I'm looking forward to that. I have some questions. I just hope I remember what they are.

Yes, I thought today was the day for the nurse's visit, Roberta.

Hey, it might be a good idea to write down all your questions before she comes. I figure you might have quite a few.

Just up. I think the head pain is diminished. Not sure yet.

Got a call from the hospital social worker. I must call back. The nurse hasn't arrived yet.

I'd write down the questions if I could remember what they are. My head is not exactly back to normal yet. Still struggling with my word game.

Smiling big time at the package Thomas delivered. Wonderful head coverings from the northern regions.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

@Roberta,
Good luck with that! When I had visiting nurses, they were really good for taking pulse, blood pressure, and not much more. Insurance ripoff is what it was. The home health care whateveryoucallit was useful, and part of a package. You didn't get one unless you also had a nurse come out and check blood pressure.

You know the worst thing about headaches? When they finally go away, you don't even notice the absence.

So, you're practicing early rising. Great. Builds character, or something.

@roger,
Roger, The nurse hasn't shown up yet. I have no insurance. Getting even a chance of someone showing up was a major production.

Just ran (hobbled) an errand. Out of Pepsi. Shocked No ill effects. Got across the street and back again. Wore one of the hats bethie sent me. A navy blue fishin' kinda hat. Loose enough. And covers the ooky spots.

The mail contained a few horrors. And a nice suprise. The "financial difficulties" I was dealing with before I went into the hospital appear to have been resolved. Now I've got new ones. Maybe I'll wait until next week to get started worrying. Even I, Olympic gold medalist worryer, can stew about only so much at a time.

My cousin is coming to visit me (not sure when). I hope he brings his dog. Love dem dawgs. My cousin ain't bad either. He was my third word--dadda, momma, Howie. I was an early talker. Does this surprise anyone?

Still struggling with my word game. My brain is useless.

@Roberta,
I love that you're going to see Howie.
Quite timely, as I am seeing my own cousins this week for the first time in years. Not quite like Howie, but good cousins.

@ossobuco,
Howie and I grew up together. He's three years older than me.

He lived on the ground floor of the building on the Grand Concourse that had two sets of grandparents and two sets of aunts, uncles, and cousins. I thought everybody was related for a while. He was not confused. He knew who was connected to whom. He and I spent many summers together.

When I told him I thought I was getting stupider, he's the one who said that I could lose half my intelligence and still be smarter than everyone else. I was surprised. Didn't know he noticed.

He's my next of kin. When I had to fill out the something or other proxy at the hospital, I told him not to be in a hurry to pull plugs. He said he'd make me a chocolate malted and wave it under my nose. If I didn't respond, it was time to pull the plug. That seems like a good test to me. If I don't respond to a chocolate malted, I'm as good as dead.

@Roberta,
All right.

I love you, of course, but also Howie.

It is too bad the legalistas don't get to this kind of nuance.

Yes, Howie is a very good guy. It's nice to have someone connecting me to the past. I've been thinking a lot about my grandfather lately. I'm gonna ask Howie if I remember him realistically. I'm eager for his perceptions.

Howie's wife is a graduate of the CIA. I'm hoping she makes me some brownies. (No walnuts.) If she doesn't, I'm not gonna be disappointed. Well, not entirely true. I will be disappointed, but I won't act disappointed. I'm just craving the good, chewy chocolatey brownies Howie and I used to be able to get from the Sheridan Bakery. Wouldn't mind a charlotte russe either. Will I ever see one of them again? Quien sabe?

Good night, my friends.

Brain still on hold. Can't make much progress with my word game. This is driving me nuts. It should be my biggest problem.

@CalamityJane,
I've just noticed this thread, and was overwhelmed with a sadness I've not experienced in a long time, because you are one of my favorite personalities on a2k.

However, CalamityJane has it spot on! PLEASE GET OFF THE PUTER AND REST.
