Izzie, I was expecting to feel a lot better without the brain surgery hovering over my head. Not happening. I was so focused on the surgery that I neglected other aspects of life, like money. This particular chicken is coming home to roost. Big time. But then again, what else is new.

I have an appointment tomorrow with the throat doctor. My throat is still very sore, and I still can't talk. I'm supposed to see a social worker afterwards. I doubt that I'll have time.

BTW, The second organization that was supposed to pay my rent (for February) is balking. "This is based on your having surgery in February." I thought it was based on my not being able to work full time and not being able to pay the rent. So am I supposed to have the surgery just to get the rent paid?

Fie and feh.

No new tastes have returned. But I have gained back some weight. Still missing--CHOCOLATE. What a thing to be missing. Spices. Mustard. Pickles.

Sorry. I'm rambling and meandering.

@Roberta,
Good morning, Roberta,

The prospect of brain surgery would be enough to wipe just about everything else from anyone's mind! I hope you're not beating yourself up about not being able to focus on money when you've had this biggie hanging over you.

So now, it's back to those other concerns. Sigh.

Incredible. It's like Catch 22! I hope you can find a way to get a more humane & less bureaucratic response from this lot. So, you are supposed to have a crystal ball, are you? Streuth.

With all the concern about the (then) likely brain surgery, I mistakenly imagined improvements your throat & in your ability to talk. I'm really sorry to hear there hasn't been more. Here's hoping that the throat doctor can shed some light on this tomorrow.
I was just thinking, Roberta, how do you explain things to the organization which won't pay the rent when you can't properly talk to them? Can any of the hospital support services help with this?

I was wondering, are you now looking for editing work again, on top of all this other stuff? So much to think about. Sad

So I saw the throat doctor. Perfectly normal to have excrutiating ear pain. (Ear and throat noives are connected.) I insisted that she check for signs of infection. None. Just normal pain.

I got a note from the doctor for the rent lady, explaining that I'm not fit for full-time work. Hope it's enough to get the rent paid. Then all I have to worry about is paying for a container of milk and other luxuries of life. (Not gonna think about next month's bills until next month.)

Saw the social worker. She's very concerned about my emotional state. Not good. I keep trying to explain that counseling isn't the best idea now because I CAN'T TALK. For some reason, this is not sinking in.

She also suggested I make some phone calls to cancer organizations. Hey, lady. I'm almost inaudible on the phone.

Rolling Eyes

I was going to try taking the bus home. Came out of the hospital and had a major coughing fit (also normal). Couldn't breathe. Couldn't walk to the bus stop. So much for economy.

All in all, a not great day. But not terrible either. I've have woise.

Jesus wept! Good grief! Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad

What a waste of your time & your poor voice! What an incredibly stupid nincompoop!!!!!

Um .. you didn't suggest she might make some of these vital calls on your behalf, Roberta? Or is she only good at handing out advice on what you should do?

But it's good that the throat doctor said that things are progressing as they should. I hope "normal progress" speeds up a bit, & soon!

And I'm crossing my fingers that the note from the doctor for the rent lady does the trick. Phew! This is tough stuff, Roberta. You have my complete sympathy, dealing with this sort of heartless nonsense on a regular basis.

@Roberta,
Hey

How's the earhurt Boida? Just catching up here and hoping you are alright.

Problem with noives is they tell you nothing can be done to ease it, but it doesn't take the pain away. So sorry you're still struggling - hoping the docs note will get the rent paid and that one worry for the time being will go.

Thinking of you x

I'm about the same. Occasional pain now in the second ear (glad I have only two).

Going out in sympathy, you think?

@dlowan,
Well, if it is, it ain't all that sympathetic. Left ear hurts like hell. Right is moderately painful. Throat hurts too.

Must be some kind of right thing left thing going on. I've had a problem with my right knee for the past few years. Now the left one is giving me trouble. This isn't the kind of balance I appreciate.

I agree with Andrew (a few posts back).

Excruciating pain doesn't exactly sound "normal" to me, either, Roberta.

I might be missing something, but if you have another amnesia episode, how are you to remember to go to the ER? I imagine the doc and you understood one another on this, but in written form it came across a bit odd.

I'm so glad to hear the surgery is on hold. There is a terrible little bug going around that is causing raw scratchy throat and ear pain as main symptoms. Lots of people dealing with that around here. I hope yours is normal and not this bug. If you start to run a temp let your doc know and get some antibiotics going before it can settle in your chest... says Dr. Squinney. I've seen it run its course and I've seen it treated and treated cuts out a couple of weeks of suffering. Your temp should be a clue that it isn't "normal."

Anyway, good news from the kind Doc. Deep sigh of relief. I'm sending the kind Doc mental hugs. For you I'm sending positive thoughts of work, rent and freedom from pain.

Love ya, Roberta. Hang in there.

Hiya Squinney, How did I know about the amnesia episode when it happened? For one thing, I called people and said I can't remember anything. I'm scared. For another, I remembered not being able to remember. So when the doc says to go to the ER if it happens again, it's less strange than it sounds.

Not to worry. I had the doc check for infection. This ain't one. No congestion. Just pain. Normal radiation pain.

Thanks for the good wishes.

@Roberta,
Good evening, Miss Roberta.

How are the taste buds doing? Anything new and tasty and tasteful?

What's next on the dream-taste horizon?

@ehBeth,
I can eat an Oreo and find that it tastes kinda like an Oreo. However, I can't eat a chocolate bar or other things chocolate. They taste kinda like chocolate, but I choke something fierce.

Tried fish tonight. Not much taste. Also tried corn. Tasted like corn.

Raw onions are too strong. Cooked onions (sauteed) don't have any taste at all.

I'm planning to head into the citrus realm. I'm dying for a grapefruit.
