@Roberta,
Oh, whew! That all fits in with what he (was it the same doc?) said before, re the meningioma. Now I'm trying to remember how they knew you had it, an MRI or something?
From here this is excellent news.

On Bon Pain, I made a home away from home of one up on Madison and 82nd (or something like that) back in my short almost-week in NYC. I just looked it up and the address isn't listed, so it may have moved. I remember the cafe au lait and that I had some good pastries (plural because I went there three times).
Then a few years later, a bunch of us met in Chicago at the one.. on Michigan Avenue..
So I think that's a place with good a2k vibes.

Good going!

Great news! I wanted to tell you about a friend that had a thing on his brain, too, in much the same place as yours. Didn't want to jinx anything, so I didn't. He was told that most people have something like that, likely from childhood bumps and bruises. If everyone had an MRI, the majority would find something. Mostly benign and leave-alone-worthy.

@ossobuco,
On Au Bon Pain. I think the first one I ever went to was with littlek in Cambridge. I didn't quite understand their bagels, but some of their other treats were awesome.

I Yelped the one on Union Square - my favourite in Manhattan. One of the tables toward the front was my stammtisch at the first two return trips to NYC. I ended most evenings there, watching life swirling around, in particular the large fella in the pink tutu with a wig made out of cotton balls.

@ehBeth,
And I thought the place near the museum was unique - the waiter clued me in, they're now in my hometown of west LA. A bit of a circle.

Quote:
Now that the surgery is no longer hanging over my head, I must try to move forward and figure out what I'm going to do, professionally, that is.

I may wait until next week for that. Right now I'm reveling in my reprieve.

Revel away! Enjoy the relief.

As Lewis Carroll would say, "Oh frabjous day! Calloo! Callay!"

(SonofEva just memorized that poem for English class. We've been looking for excuses to use that phrase.)

This is veryveryvery good news, Boida! So happy for you!!!

@ehBeth,
I just had to Google the word stammtisch. How awesome (it means "regular's table"). I take it it can also mean regular's whatever. E. g. I have a particular seat I always sit on on the bus, and feel out of sorts when it's taken.

PS Sorry for the detour but it is about language. Smile

@jespah,
I'm surprised the word isn't commonly used in Yiddish (far as I know). I believe it's derived from the very commonly used stammgast, meaning a reguar customer who gets special treatment.

@Merry Andrew,
You are a Stammgast in your Stammkneipe at the Stammtisch.

You're correct, Andrew, it all derives from Stammgast: 'Stamm-' means here a certain, clear-cut group of persons.

@jespah,
A Stammtisch is similar to a tertulia.

@Roberta,
Well how about all that? Small steps complete the journey as efficiently as big ones. So another cup of tea and enjoy the reprieve or solution as it very well may be. Still waiting and expecting still better days ahead.

You are all wonderful. Don't know what I would have done without you. Truly.

Jes, Happy to learn a new word.

I have a feeling that I'd be further along in my recovery if I hadn't been worrying about my head being drilled open. An enormous weight has been lifted. Feel lighter already. I now need to get stronger.
