And speaking of propaganda campaigns... consider how the last six years has been one enormous snow job to prevent folks from understanding this simple point...

If it was all about oil, where is the oil?
Why isnt any of it coming to the US?
Why havent any US oil companies gotten any of the contracts?

Where is the oil?

In which case propaganda is a waste of money. Everybody I know was quite convinced it was all about oil long ago and remain so convinced to this day. Only a few liberals who love complicated theories with which to bamboozle and bask themselves in could ever have thought anything else.

Some stories had to be invented of course to salve the consciences of those who use oil at vast rates and who don't wish the bloodshed involved in getting a secure supply to appear to be upon their hands.

Most people around the world do not understand about political propoganda; it happens in all countries whether democratic or otherwise, so exactly what are you trying to tell us?

This is probably the most obvious and sloppy counter-factual I've bumped into for a long while, spendi. And to a near certainty, you'll defend it. That's why there are so few bernie/spendi conversations.

Bernie-

Do you mean that if I turned myself around and made an effort to take your liberal position seriously, or pretend to anyway, expertly, we could get together more often.

Look mate- the bloody liberals have just banned smoking in pubs. And only because they like, love even, going around banning things. What else does anyone need to know about that sort of state of mind.

Mr Bush is not sat there trying to think up new things to ban. He's securing the oil supply for you and your's. You need to find a better way than he's found to do that in all the circumstances. It's no good going on about him skiving off his duties when he was a bit of a lad or whether he got pissed a time or two. Some of us empathise with that sort of thing. People who work hard physically mainly. Or have done.

It's all rather difficult you see. As the Romans declined the wealth got more and more concentrated and the poor got poorer and poorer. He has ricorsos like that at the back of his mind. He has a lot of balls in the air and he's on a unicycle. On a seesaw. Twirling hoops around each limb with an upside-down cocktail glass balanced on his nose and he has to catch the cherry his assisstant throws up in his teeth to make the trick work. Otherwise the audience groans satirically.

You liberals have everything in compartments. I'm a post-structuralist.

Anyway- this is a bernie/spendi conversation.

Hey- I was studying that famous building in Portland. That's getting a bit post-structuralist I must say. What a monstrosity eh? What do the locals think of it?

And apparently you are one of them.

You and others say the war is solely about oil,but the US isnt getting any of the oil.

So,how can it be about oil if we arent getting any of it?
Shouldnt we be getting all of it if it is solely about oil?

"Solely" is a misrepresentation of what Greenspan said. He used the term "mainly". You should feel badly about that misrepresentation but not too bad as that idiot Wolf Blitzer was doing the same thing all morning.

But, in the name of all that is holy, what will it take for some of you folks on the right to confront how profoundly you have been misled?

As soon as you show us exactly which US oil companies are getting the Iraqi oil and where that oil is going now and how much of the oil they are getting.

But,you cant do that, because there is no Iraqi oil coming to the US.

You could juggle the books mm and make that technically true.

We are simply trying, Bernie, to make sure that your way of life doesn't suffer any minor inconveniences. We may not succeed.

You are really going to keep pretending to yourself that Greenspan's understanding of the economics and politics related to the US and middle east oil is inferior to yours?

Absolutely not.

But,what US companies are getting the oil, how much are they getting, and where is it going?

If you and Greenspan are correct, those should be simple questions for you to answer.
Instead, you keep avoiding the question.

"Absolutely not" is where you should have stopped. And then started thinking or reading to try and understand why he has said what he has said.

Anything I might say is completely irrelevant as regards the correctness or credibility of Greenspan's statement and opinion.
