Joe, that's why I played "Do you Know Where you're Going to" for you

Another oddity.

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

It made around forty three million at the box office.

No ruby slippers, and No Dorothy.

The Balloon.

That's the second Disney Oz film. I don't know yet if I will see it.

@edgarblythe,
It's actually surprisingly fun and sparkly pretty to watch. Michelle Williams and Zach Braff (from Scrubs) actually steal the movie from the lead James Franco.

@tsarstepan,
I'm glad you liked it, but I was very disappointed. Seemed like nothing more than a set-up for Disney rides and merchandising. No heart, no brain, no courage.

And you expected that this would somehow be different from anything Disney does, Eva?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a2/Shakespeare.jpg/250px-Shakespeare.jpg

LONDON (AP) -- Hoarder, moneylender, tax dodger — it's not how we usually think of William Shakespeare.
But we should, according to a group of academics who say the Bard was a ruthless businessman who grew wealthy dealing in grain during a time of famine.
Researchers from Aberystwyth University in Wales argue that we can't fully understand Shakespeare unless we study his often-overlooked business savvy.
"Shakespeare the grain-hoarder has been redacted from history so that Shakespeare the creative genius could be born," the researchers say in a paper due to be delivered at the Hay literary festival in Wales in May.
Jayne Archer, a lecturer in medieval and Renaissance literature at Aberystwyth, said that oversight is the product of "a willful ignorance on behalf of critics and scholars who I think — perhaps through snobbery — cannot countenance the idea of a creative genius also being motivated by self-interest."

@Letty,
Interesting, Letty. Well, he was a writer who had a thorough sense of human foibles. Maybe even some self knowledge of them.

Shakespeare probably wrote Shake a Tailfeather Baby but let someone else claim the credit.

@Joe Nation,
Calls to mind a LTjg I served with. Every shark fin he sighted became a rifle target. As many years as he put in at sea, there were countless victims, I am guessing.

@Joe Nation,
Funny, joe. I love John Cleese and the Python.

More oddities.

Glass bottom boat.

SILVER SPRINGS, FLORIDA: Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954)
One of Florida’s most popular attractions, Silver Springs shares a long history with the movie industry. The first movie filmed here was The Seven Swans, in 1916. Six Tarzan movies were filmed here, and so were a couple of the James Bond movies (Thunderball and Never Say Never Again). I love to take a glass-bottomed boat ride and hear stories about the movies – especially about chimpanzees that escaped during filming of the Tarzan series.
• A few other movies filmed in part at Florida locations include Ace Ventura – Pet Detective (South Beach, Sun Life Stadium in Miami, and Villa Vizcaya in Coconut Grove); License to Kill (St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church and the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum in Key West, and Key West International Airport); Armageddon and Apollo 13 (Kennedy Space Center); and The African Queen (Key Largo).

Now the humor.

The National Mississippi River Museum announced last week that Cashew had been stolen. Instead, the animal had gotten wedged behind a museum wall. Embarrassed about losing track of a tortoise, a staff member popped Cashew into the elevator to make it appear she'd been returned by a thief.
