Found this when looking for big hair pics -- you're not a chick, but you're a Yankee (and if you protest the latter, that just shows you need to read this):

Don't you think that would be a little too seventies for me? Maybe if I switch careers and become a rock star though ....

I don't think that's big hair. I think that's a big hairpiece.

It is indeed. Here's the deal, Deb: I promise you to do my hair like that -- after my first billion and my third wife. Sound fair?

THIRD wife seems a little excessive.

Then again, you're moving to Texas.....

I think you may be confounding Texas with Utah, or maybe northern Arizona. It's much easier there to make it to third wife.

This reminds me very little of the conservation I was having with a friend when I was farming in far western Colorado and some Motel chain started building a new motel on the property next to mine and I commented "must be some new mormon family moving in" and he responded "no, I think not, I don't see a place for a bar."

If it's a good work relationship between entities, they will come up with an agreement.

It turns out that this may be a big "if". I had a talk with the new boss an hour ago. He stated it more diplomatically that I will in a second, but it seems he owes the old boss a favor, that the old boss is calling in the favor by asking the new boss to delay his offer to me, and that if new boss didn't return the favor, that would poison the work relationship between the two.

I can do one of two things now. One is to escalate the conflict by quitting my German job, leaving the new boss free to hire me whenever he wants, but also leaving the old boss pissed off and hard to work with in the future. The alternative is that I could wait and see what time plan they'll agree to, and escalate any leftover conflict then if necessary. I'll spend the next couple of days figuring out what's the better tradeoff.

Very messy! How often would you be working for your old (current) boss?

With my old boss -- weekly. With the people working for my old boss -- daily. So if I quit and move, he's not in a position to stop me. But he is in a position to make life hard for me, and for all the new boss's group.

Ugh. I'm thinking it's easier to move in October/November than, say, mid February, but that might be silly. The anxiety level with the wait, the indefiniteness seems burdensome - somewhat x3.

I'd also hate to see you in the neverland in between, having quit and not hired for a while, though that last may be unlikely.

Hope they work it out bloody soon.

Limbo sucks.

Of course, I think you're moving to hell, but what would I know?

You might be confusing Texas with Utah.

I must agree with Deb. It's worse than hell for me. But that's me now. For years I found ways to make living in Dallas more than good enough. There are ways which I'll share with you if you decide to actually make the move. One plus for Bernie and me is that we'll have the opportunity to see you in person much more often since I have to travel to Dallas with some frequency to visit my very elderly mother and children. I can show you around town, that's for sure.

I haven't had the time to read this entire thread, I apologize. But has anyone told you that the most liberal neighborhoods are in an area known as "East Dallas," especially Lakewood or surrounding areas? I suggest that you not commit to live anywhere without consulting me or others that know Dallas well, unless you would like virtually all your neighbors to be adamant George Bush sympathizers.

On the bookstore issue, there are plenty of book stores in Dallas, But you'll definitely need a car. There is no way to live in Dallas without a car. That's one of the things I so dislike about the place. And there's always Amazon.

I can handle the blond part, but not the big, no way. When are you making this visit to Portland?

I'm sure, you'll get your Hax'n somewhere there, Thomas Laughing

You left out Kubys. It's the most authentic by far. Oh and the Black Forest Bakery.

Doesn't Willy Nelson live in Luchenbach, or do I have that confused with some other rural East to Central Texas town?

Dallas is in East Texas which is much much much nicer than West Texas. Dallas is greener and less flat than Lubbock, for instance. If you want to remain sane, I'd avoid West Texas, even when you're driving to Albuquerque.....take the northern route (through the Texas Panhandle and there's also a good way to avoid contact with Oklahoma as well, if you know how.

Austin is fun and liberal however. It's very green with plenty of rivers. It's a great sport in Austin and New Branvels (I can't spell that, but it's German so maybe you can help me out) to float down some of the rivers on big black inner tubes, while drinking beer non stop.

This is a very entertaining thread. Maybe I will read it all, whether I have the time or not. Which I don't. Oh well.
