Okay, here's the first call for people who wish to get together on Saturday, August 25, for some activity. I recommend at the very least we do the produce market at the Ferry Building in the morning hours, and maybe have breakfast at a near-by restaurant.

Anybody?

What's the weather like? Do I need to bring my Sibirian emergency kit?

Expect "cool" like in the high fifties and low sixties. Layering is best with a jacket and/or sweater.

The official forecast is high sixties.

If you plan to go anywhere away from the Coast, we're having 100+ temps at the moment and it is forecasted to be the same for the next 5 days. So bring jackets for the colder SF weather and shorts and tanks for everywhere else.

Okay, I'm in. I arrive at 9:00 and will be at my B&B probably around 10:00. I will pm you the number there. Would you like me to call you when I check in?

Mame, If you can call me when you land at SFO, I can start to drive into SF which takes about one hour. That'll give me time to find a parking garage and walk to the Ferry Building where we can meet at about 11AM.

georgeob, You have to spell it out for us! Sputtering will get you nowhere. We're all on for Sunday - as far as I know.

Saturday morning at the Ferry Building produce market sounds like a good idea to Sglass and Merry Andrew (this is actually M.A. writing). We are changing hotels that day but it's no big problem. We'll check out early, drive down Market Street, park, meet for a romp 'round the Ebarcadero, have breakfast and do whatever C.I., our intrepid guide and host, suggests. Sometime after 2 p.m., we can take a break from all that, drive back up Market, check in at the new place on 9th Street, etc. By then, plans for the rest of the weekend should be in place...more or less. So who else is up for joining us at the Ferry Bldg. tomorrow?

BTW, we spent yesterday afteroon at the SFMOMA (Museum of Modern Art) and can recommend that highly to anyone who wants to break off and go museum crawling. The exhibit of photographs by Martin Mumkacsi (3rd floor) is particularly striking. We almost missed it, decided only at the last moment to look in, and were entralled. This guy's silver prints from work done in the 1920s, '30s and '40s is amazing. He started out as a news photographer but his idea of news photography was not taking pictures of the bull and matador at a bullfight, for example, but of the faces of the spectators. Amazing stuff!

Now a word from the distaff side:

I discovered the major indoor shopping mall on Market Street. Great place to max out your credit cards. I am still shopping for the perfect fanny pac and have decided I have to design my own.

See all of you tomorrow.

Sglass

Oh! You saw Mumkasci! I'm pretty interested in him, sort of a forebear of Cartier-Bresson, if I remember.

I will be curious, when this delightful a2k meeting is over and the hotel stayers have moved on, to hear about the various hotels, here or by pm, unless y'all continue to want that private, which I can understand. (Just in case there's no room at the Adagio next time...)

I believe it's worth noting that the hotel Merry Andrew and Sglass are moving to have "free" parking. That's a biggie by itself. We paid $36 for one night of parking in downtown from our hotel at the first SF gathering.

I remember parking can be a biggie. (Airport shuttle for me..)

If we don't 'a2k talk' before, Mame, hope you have a great flight; also CJane, have a great flight! (Don't know if Francis is in town yet, but same to him if not.) I used to love flying in to SF from the Arcata airport; fantastic views.

Most of my flights into San Francisco have been from the south, but the north flight plan gives one a very good view of the whole San Francisco bay with the Golden Gate Bridge, the skyline, and the bay bridge. I'll have to have my camera ready the next time I fly in from the north.
