What's YOUR Overriding Political Issue in the Next Election?

Reply Wed 6 Jun, 2007 06:59 am
There are many issues that appear to be the driving force behind many member's political thoughts concerning the coming presidential election.
I would like to strip it down to basics.

For this thread, let's not think of any political candidate. I would like to be concerned about the issues only. Is there one issue, that for you, would be overriding in determining your choice for president? Is there a constellation of issues? What are they?

I would appreciate it if we spoke of issues only, and not mention the names of any particular candidate. thanks!

Climate change, nothing else matters if climate change is not addressed.

I'm concerned about health care, seeing that my husband and I are presently two of the millions in this country that are uninsured. But immigration is way up there, along with putting an end to this stupid war.

I'm surprised Phoenix didn't have health care as one of her choices. It obviously should rank right up there with the best of them.

I've tried to find compassion on this issue Phoenix but, illegal is illegal and screaming for rights while you're pulling barbed wire out of your ass is the epitome of false entitlement. But something needs to be done and I'm curious to see what will come of this issue.

I don't have a one overriding issue, but my key issues are:

1. Restoring the rule of law and separation of powers to our system of government
2. Climate change
3. The economy

You are right, Gus. I thought that I thought of everything, but what the hell, it's early in the morning. I also left out education, and the environment, but I can't edit now. Alright, that is what "other" is for.

eoe- I heartily agree with you. To me, if someone is here illegally, IMO by definition, they are criminals.

1. end the stupid war
2. end persecution of immigrants
3. restore lower and middle class strength versus big business
4. global warming taken seriously
5. curtail power of lobbying in Washington
6. accountable voting machines that actually work, and enough to accommodate all: better enforcement of right to vote

1. Prosecution of the war on Radical Islamic terrorism.
2. Reclaim a majority in the Congress.
3. Defeat whichever candidate the Democrats pick to run for the Presidency.

While the nation is under attack from an enemy determined upon our destruction, all other issues are secondary. The National Debts is an important issue, but wars always are expensive and the alternative is unacceptable.
