That we hadn't resolved, as yet.
You know who else is still dead??
Come on, I know you know.
That's right.

Edgar, does your new car meet the latest emission standards?
Referring to the avatar? That is a photo of the actual family car when I was six years old.
it's a slow process but two of his chins have risen. Three more to go and then the rest of the resurrection can continue...

and who was driving? Moses?
My beloved step father was the driver.
I find this holier than thou speech funny considering this guy cheated on his wife.
I guess he wants a war.

Yes. They are.

Jerry Falwell was a sick, hate-filled bigot. I don't see any reason that we can't rejoice that someone who successfully taught millions of people to mobilize their private beliefs into a militant and politically active crusade to hate others, and to spread that hate by interfering with the lives of those who try to know better.
"He gave people comfort." So did the leader of the Heaven's Gate cult.
"He helped the poor." Only in an effort to brainwash them to his cause. If they said, "**** Jesus!" their asses would have been back on the street.
"He was a man who stood by what he believed." So do the leaders of Al Qaeda.
"We shouldn't rejoice in the death of a human being." Um... capital punishment, anyone?
Where did his hate come from? A literal reading of an ancient and poorly-assembled text that sadly shaped the Western World. (It still amazes me how little Christians care to know about the oh-so-shaky origins of their sacred scrolls.)
My pleasure does not stem from the fact that Jerry Falwell is dead. It stems from the fact that he is no longer alive. His imprint on society was nothing but a disease. And, sadly, his vile memes have been spread, and we will have to contend with pathetic fat men of his ilk for generations to come. (Read Newt Gingrich's comments and his son's comments from Liberty's Commencement.) A lot of us are just taking this moment to counterpoint all of the "nice" things that the media and his followers have to say about this sad, sorry, fat man.
I can't help but allow my jaw to drop at the irony of what's happening here. We are in the midst of some of the most enlightened and reason-driven books being released ("The God Delusion", "The End of Faith", "Breaking the Spell", "God is not Great") that are trying to make the argument that, just because someone is "religious" doesn't mean we owe them any additional "respect" for their convictions. What's so special about religion? What's so special about DEATH?
Just because Jerry Falwell had a particular faith, just because he's no longer living, doesn't mean that we can't (indeed, it almost follows that we SHOULD) criticize the ideologies that he championed. Many of us see this as an opportunity to say to all those listening, "This evil person has finally been silenced. And now let us take these lessons and dispense respect for anyone else who tries to pick up this baton." Personally, I'm now waiting for Pat Robertson to dispense with the need for a pulse.
America would have been/would be a better place without these individuals. How can you NOT feel a sense of relief at their removal from the timeline?
Why the hell should we be polite to those who are religious? I'd be happy to do so except that the religious don't return the favor. And Falwell is largely responsible for that. The time has come to deal with bigotry and hatred, especially when trumpeted in the name of god, with as much respect as someone who says he just doesn't like blacks. The only difference between racists and "people of faith who believed in their ideals" is whether or not their hatred was written down before most people could read.
Good riddance to a disgusting example of a mammal.

Thanks, but I think I'll just take your word for it.
With a nutcase like Phelps, you may not agree with him, but you always know where he stands... Usually, he's standing neck deep in a barrel of ****.

Because rejoicing at a mans death might make you a sick hate-filled bigot?

I think pretty much most all of us would have rejoiced, at the time, in Hitler's death. Or Stalin's.
If that hunch of mine is correct, then we're not
really disputing a question of principle here, despite pretensions of such. Just whether Falwell was bad
enough to warrant rejoicing.

It's pretty much as if I were to rejoice at the passing of ... oh, I don't know ... Michael Moore. And while I might think he's a huge bag of pustulence (and I do), I don't hate him enough to dance on his grave -- nor does he warrant such hate from me.
I am constantly amazed at the
hate leftists have for those who do not
share their views.
It's not the fact they don't share our views, but the destructive nature of their actions stirs our dislike.
