Well, i address just about everyone at one time or another as "Boss," so you ought not let it bother you . . . i'll try not to bother you with it, though . . .
I've been responding toungue in cheek throughout . . . it would never have occurred to me that anyone seriously believes that MA said: "Let them eat brioche." It is so absurd, i assumed you were kidding. My source for <<Qu'ils mange de la croute.>> is both texts from France, as well as the repetition--until i was sick of hearing it--of the "error" English speakers make in saying "cake" by the many, many francophones i have known in my life . . .
If you really believe that she said that, you are, of course, entitled to do so . . . you'll never convince me . . .
As to how long she was in France, your original statement was about MA living in Paris--and i assure you, the royal family did not go to Paris until after the March of the Market Women in October, 1789 . . . of that, i haven't the least doubt . . .
I'm impressed. Apparently I ought to be reading more of this, but probably won't. Instead I think I'll drink and watch littleK flirting with that handsome busboy personage.
I'm still looking forward to sharing this with my friend who always cuts the crusts from her bread. Too good to miss.

Hmmmm ... a crust-cutter, eh? Well, then! Into the tumbrel with her!
Unless, of course, you'd care to ransom her ... perhaps something can be worked out.
timber
And what is more shocking... she is a liberal feminist, possibly even more so than I. She was my candidate and I was her campaign manager a few years ago. It just seems like conservative behavior to cut the crusts off. Am I wrong?
She did save the crusts for bread crumbs.
Cutting of crusts is conservative behaviour? How about refusing to eat bread that isn't buttered to the edges - what sort of political association what you ascribe to that particular type of fussy eating?
Cutting of crusts seems wasteful... therefore not the sort of thing a do-gooder liberal would do. Not eating bread with butter? Well, there's that old guns and butter saw -- so I suppose it would be a dove sort of political association.
What dya think?
Refusing to eat bread that has not been buttered to the exact edges, that is the symptom. What is the political dx?
I think some assumptions are being made that have little basis.
--I merely asked who "Boss" was, which does not constitute an objection.
Since I am new to this forum, I do not know what you customarily call people.
--Note that in one of my posts I specified "attributed to" about the brioche quotation.
--Suppose for the purpose of discussion that Marie Antoinette did make the statement, in one of its several forms. The year in which she said (or did not say) it is not specified, so whether she was living in France, had ever been there (for her wedding in 1770), or had heard of brioche while in Austria is of no practical importance if she is believed not to have said it.
You may be right, but I stand behind my statements. This is beginning to feel like focus on a quodlibet.
Well, keep postin' on the topic and i'm sure you'll get yer wish . . .
This is basically a load of crap, as it is by no means certain that she said anything of the kind--she was the target of a great deal of vicious, scurrilous gossip from early on . . . i frankly don't care what she said, when she said it, where she said it . . . this is a shabeen, where people come to order "virtual" drinks, to laugh, to joke, to be silly with one another . . . something else you apparently didn't know, nor catch on to when you came into this thread . . . i'll solve your problem of being so aggravated with me, however, i won't respond to your posts again . . .
Whoosh. That last post has gotten me all THIRSTY.
What'll be yer pleasure, sir . . . remember, this is THE most fully-stocked virtual shabeen in the land of the dancing electrons . . .
I´ll take a pint of linseed oil,barkeep.
Perfect libation fer a furniture-lookin' gennelman, if ye'll fergive a personal observation . . .
Hebba, drinking the art supplies is overated.
