Hamster Dancin' Around the World

OK, so I'm ready to move on this.

Y'all may have already seen this thread, where Rocky the small stuffed squirrel visited various A2K'ers in various far-flung locations, and then returned safely to the warm embrace of his boy.

Rocky had a deadline so it was kind of rush-rush and some people who were interested in hosting him didn't get a chance to do so.

Enter Penny the hamster.

She's also small and stuffed and intrepid, and is ready to go on a nice leisurely trip around the world (or to a neighboring state, whatever works).

She's going to travel with a small notebook for A2K'ers to enter whatever they want in it, and will end up with my six-year-old daughter (who followed Rocky's travels with delight). To participate, you should:

1.) Be a responsible hamster-caretaker.
2.) Be willing to pay shipping to send Penny on her way (varies greatly, seems to average about $10).
3.) Be willing to give your address to an A2K'er (the one who sends you Penny).
4.) Have a camera or another means of taking a picture of Penny in your area.
5.) Be willing to post pictures and descriptions here on this thread.

At this point, there is no time limit. Sozlet knows that Penny's going on some extended travels and that's fine with her. Could be years, potentially.

The Rocky thing went so great, thanks again to all who participated. Looking forward to Penny's adventures!

Sure, Penny is most welcome here! I don't leave until early June, but I'll be sure to give her a good tour of Boston and Cambridge before I go to Amsterdam, Bratislava, and perhaps Vienna.

Even in smoke filled southern California we would have room for
Penny. I am going soon to Munich and Prague, if Penny would like to join us at the beergardens.

Yay, lots of people already!

We'd talked about Dag getting Penny first and bringing her along to Amsterdam et al. (Hamsterdance in Amsterdam!)

When do you leave, CalamityJane? That sounds wonderful, too.

One thing that worked well with Rocky was to more or less geographically group things so that he wasn't criss-crossing the globe repeatedly, for reasons of time and money. (Austin --> Seattle --> Columbus is cheaper and faster than Austin --> Australia --> Columbus.) So for now I think I will plan on:

- Dag gets Penny first
- We give people more time to say whether they're interested
- We'll geographically group the ones who are interested
- We'll do that first batch, then keep adding on as necessary

btw this CAN go on for a long time, but if only the people who have said something so far are interested, that's groovy too. Long, short, we'll go with the flow.

Cambodia! We're under-represented in Asian countries so far, that'd be great.

If Penny comes to Canada I'd love to take her to camp. She could sit on an old fashioned school desk, check out the cedar wigwam my son built and enjoy a campfire. (I'm having issues with rodents at the moment, but Penny, being tailless, would be most welcome Very Happy .)

If Penny wants to do some dancing in Amsterdam - no real problem: I would like to drive her there (if she's not too afraid).

Or some other places around here ...

I'll hire her then. She'll be going around July 10....and stay for a year, so I can always send Penny to her later, depending on what's most convenient for scheduling. Though I couldn just hand Penny over before she goes.

I'd be glad to be a hostess, but my computer skills don't include posting pictures. Could I be considered a Fourth Dimension Native?

This sounds like it could be fun. You know, I'm starting to envy Penny. She gets to meet everybody!
