Actually, nearly all of his fingers were to be seen on one of the London 2005 threads.

No need to give a link since it looks so now:

How funny, I have a picture of my hand that looks just like that, Francis - I'm also holding a hermit crab (actually two - one with a shell and one without).

The rock is indeed granite. It had super cool quartz seams in it. Quartz must be significantly softer than granite because the seams had eroded out in places and the rock had split along them in others.

Here's another picture of the rock

A the risk of derailing the thread, I'll post my hermit crab picture too. Sozolet might enjoy it......

Francis, I've always adored those little critters. We used to build sand castles for them.

Hey, Penny here.
Dasha had a BIG surprise for me today. We went to her work as usual, but this time, we did not go to the second floor, but to the third floor. There we chatted for a long time with Jennifer, a nice young lady. She kept looking into another room and saying "he's on the phone, it will be awhile..." The person in the other room was talking to some senator, Dodd I think who wants to become the President of the United States. At the end this person told him "I'm sending you a big kiss" which made me chuckle. But when he came out, I was very surprised. It was Elie Wiesel! In person!

We told him all about sozlet and why I am visiting him, and he posed for a picture with us. He does not look very happy in the photo, but he was actually in a very good mood this morning. It is incredible. Elie Wiesel is 79 years old and he flew in this morning from somewhere and is flying this afternoon somewhere else to give a talk. Very busy man! I feel very lucky he took time to talk with me.

yes, penny was very happy. i think it may be a hint of a smile on his face, even. I don't want to type his name too much otherwise this thread will pop up when people will google him and that's not a good idea...

I am...awestruck.

Shocked

I usually don't care one way or the other about meeting celebrities, but this guy is one of my Real Life Heroes. This is unbelievable.

I don't know whether I'm more shocked at the idea of Penny meeting him, or Dasha working just one floor below him.

I'm going to go lie down now. I'm feeling a little dizzy.
