Irreverence is another person's disrespect to your god; there isn't any word that tells what your disrespect to his god is.

There are those who scoff at the school boy, calling him frivolous and shallow. Yet it was the schoolboy who said, "Faith is believing what you know ain't so."

Sorry, osso. Misquoting Jesus (even by the gospel writers) is one of my pet peeves. Nice try, Arella -- that was the author Luke, not Jesus.

Ok, I'll stop... back to quipping.

Jesus said it and Luke recorded it. It was also recorded in Mark 2:17.

Perhaps JPB means that writing something down after it has been bandied about orally for 50 to 100 years is a rather loose use of the term "recorded".

Perhaps not. Perhaps he means something else. He has not elaborated on what he meant. You have.

This is what he said:

"Misquoting Jesus (even by the gospel writers) is one of my pet peeves. Nice try, Arella -- that was the author Luke, not Jesus."

If it was a misquote by Luke then what is the actual quote?

John Scopes, of the Tennessee monkey trial fame, is alleged to have gotten in trouble when he told another teacher:

God created man, and man, being a gentleman, returned the compliment.

Which is attributed to Samuel Clemens originally, although i don't have a source for it.
