Mornin all,

Yeah, the email really took me by surprise - it's the first and only one I ever received from him - and I don't receive emails from any other Congress-people. I was always under the impression that the representatives of the people were supposed to express the majority desires of the people they represent - that has never happened in my case until now. Apparently, to do that they would have to actually ask the people how they feel about certain subjects and issues. They may take polls of certain areas, but, I haven't heard of that happening.
Sen Cornyn asked me help him support Pres Bush by supporting the war in Iraq..... Well, for the first time - I answered his first email to me.

clicked.....

Thank you all for your kind words re. my post to the Senator.

It is why we enjoy each other - as, Benjamin Franklin said, "Birds of a feather stick together." He really knew people didn't he? People are only really comfortable with familiar things and stuff they are used to.

On the other hand - - - I just heard President Shrub say, "I'm sure history will prove me to be right." That's disturbing, to say the least, because it reminds me of another figure from history - Napoleon Bonaparte, who said, "History is a collection of lies that have been finally agreed upon."

My hope = the internet and sites like Google - - that won't be intimidated by the Shrub's goon squads. There will be TWO sites admiring the Bush family - - - and, MILLIONS saying how bad they are/were.

During the 2003 election year I Googled two sites = The Bush Family. And, The Kerry Family. The results of my search was the Bush family had approximately 3.5 million sites of bad history. The Kerry family had only ONE site of bad history - and that was the story told by the boat guys (who by the way - did not even see the action they were talking about). Soon afterward the bad sites re. Kerry increased at a rapid rate - and I noticed that the first ten pages of sites on the Bush search increased to favorable ones. Sounds like some kids made a lot of money searching the same sites over and over - because that's the way Google works - the most searched site is the first one you will see on the list. I tell you - Papa Bush is really a smart cookie.

It is far to warm and dry here. No rain for many weeks, no snow in winter. Danger of forest fires and the crop is already suffering.

g'day WilldClickers!

Dan, not certain what gwb meant by those words except he is 'right' wing = thats about all the truth to it. Accountability isn't the administrations strong suit.

Moyers ran a pre war clip at the completion of his PBS "Bill Moyers Journal" {new segments began May 25th} titled "Buying the War" where gwb said: "We cannot wait for the final proof: the smoking gun that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud."
Then Moyer explains: "The man who came up with it {the quote} was Michael Gerson, President Bush's top speechwriter. He has left the White House and has been hired by the Washington Post as a columnist".

Moyers Pre-Program at: http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/042007H.shtml

Ul and sumac, stay cool!

I am so glad that Bill Moyers' Journal is back on the air on PBS. I watched for about half an hour last night and it made me so sad and ashamed of our, and the media's, complicity, that I went to bed.

Hmmm, the Gerson person. I will have to look at that. Also, I seem to recall that the Washington Post is owned by the Rev. Moon - of S Korea?? Is that still true?? Or, was it some sort of trick?? Or, was it the Washington Star - that went caput decades ago??

We all know, of course, that the "news" is controlled by the "news manager" who in turn is controlled by his boss, who in turn is controlled/made suggestions to, by "other people" with money and influence over them. That's life !!

---------------

OMG!!!!!!
It just came to me that the Merry Andrew clicked at "Four-thirty PM"

Reminds me of a Village People song restructured = "Having dinner at Fooour-thirty PM, Having dinner at Fooour-thirty PM, - - - Ta Da - - - Ta Da - Da da, ta da da da da...........

That's the song of the Baby Boomers now......... Very Happy

Now that is scary.

I worked at UPI in the 1960s. The wire service was owned by one of the smaller newspaper chains at the time (I honestly forget which one). They didn't interfere in editorial policy at all, as far as I could tell. But, like all corporations, they wanted UPI to be a money-maker for them. Unfortunately, they underfunded their step-child. Consequently, we were always understaffed (not to mention underpaid). We tried to compete with the Associated Press but it was largely a futile attempt. If we set up a one-man bureau somewhere, the AP would bring in two newsmen to cover the same territory. If we had two newsmen, they'd have two newsmen plus a teletype operator, so the newsmen could concentrate on nothing but the news. And so on.

Moonies running my old shop? I shudder to think. . .

from the UPI history link

Quote:
UPI, a 93-year-old agency, has been a financially troubled operation for the better part of the past three decades, with multiple ownership changes during the past 18 years. The serial owners have included Mexican publisher Mario Vazquez Rana and a U.S. partner, Texan Joe Russo, and Infotechnology Inc., which is owned by Earl W. Brian, a California venture capitalist. Most recently a group of Saudi Arabian industrialists presided over the company. When the sale to Moon was announced, veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas, UPI's most revered and honored employee, handed in her resignation rather than pick up her paycheck from Moon

Good on Helen.

Scary what's happened to UPI.
