The CAT room!

I have another question to pose to all the people owned by cats.

Does your feline ever eat things that are not good for them? I don't mean just an unhealthy amount of food.

My cat Whisper tries to eat my deodorant Confused . I use the gel kind and if I happen to leave the bottle out he goes nuts trying to lick it. I know this is unhealthy so i leave it inside a drawer where he can't get to it.

He also likes this certain hand lotion I have. Some apple scented bath and bodyworks stuff. If I put it on and he smell it he comes running. He'll try to lick it off and when I shoo him away you'd think he had gotten ahold of catnip. He rolls around and rubs and acts like a general loon.

Also (the list goes on) I will catch him eating plastic! He will eat a big hole out of an empty trash bag and things like that. I don't know why?!

I do a good job of keeping these things where he won't have access to them, but I could never understand why he does this. None of the other cats I have had in life did anything like this.

Does anyone have any ideas or similar occurrences?

Ok, I have posted pictures in the gallery! I think the first one I forgot to put in the pet category so I think it will end up in the kids section, unless someone knows how to move it.

Thanks again for all the help!

I've looked & can't find your snaps, aldistar. Couldn't find any with your name on them. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places/

Aldistar, My late, lamented Miranda had a thing for Blistex! If I put some on, I had to fight her off me. She would lick it from the tube if I wasn't careful. My late, lamented Patty loved wool. Yes, a gigantic, furry moth. She was also partial to leather. Mikey (neither late, nor lamented) likes paper and marshmallows. He especially likes paper that moves--faxes and pages I'm printing. He ate a fax. Had to call the vet because the fax paper was treated with some kind of chemical. He survived. He went after some papers that were printing and broke the table the printer was on. He nibbles on manuscripts I'm working on. I occasionally return things with yellow flyers pointing out "Mikey Bites." My late, lamented parakeet Billie also liked paper.

Dese animals is nuts.

Aldistar - I confess one of my cats will lick my deodorant from under my arm if I let him - he also loves it when I moisturize my legs and such!

Rosie loves biting paper and cardboard - like you I end up with little puncture marks along the edges of documents if i don't catch her in time! She doesn't eat it - just enjoys the crunching! She sits in cardboard boxes merrily crunching the edges

What she does eat is the scones that David puts out for the birds (he BUYS cheap scones for them as 'they like it better than bread' he says!) - she has taken to bringing pieces in an eating them - yesteday she ate a whole scone Rolling Eyes

Max, who has never been outside (NYAC---New York Apartment Cat)
l o v e s flowers of any kind. Roses, tulips, baby's breath is a special favorite. I cannot bring L flowers unless she puts them in a vase on top of an inacessable bookcase, even then Max prowls below sniffing the air. She was very happy the other day when we gave her a stick to chew on from a bouquet, but what I try to do is buy 'cat grass' on a regular basis.

I either buy it already sprouted at the Union Square Farmer's Market or sprout my own from a cat grass kit. We call it our front lawn. It's really just alfalfa sprouts, I could probably just put some in their bowls but they (Max has a sister, Ruby) like browsing the fresh sprigs.

I was about to say our cats don't do that. But then I read what your cats do. Yes, deodorant from under my arm... Flowers - absolutely. We have just one window sill that they cannot reach. It's in our bedroom. That's were I have to put flowers. Mysan will eat them otherwise. Nisse and Mysan always get cat grass that I grow for them in little plastic containers. It is real grass and they love it.

Ah, yes, Joe. I forgot about the flower situation. Bouquets must be put somewhere high and inaccessible. I grow oat grass for Mikey. Another indoor NYC lawn. LOL.

At least mine isn't the only one Very Happy . I'll just have to keep these items out of harms way.

Something kind of annoying and kind of cute is Nugget has "discovered" cotton balls. All three of my cats know how to open cupboard doors and recently I have caught Nugget sneaking out of my bathroom carrying a cottonball. At least she is polite and only takes one at a time. She never goes for another until the current one has been thoroughly decimated and spread over the entire apartment.

Tabbie does the exact same thing only with my Q-tips. Rolling Eyes

Oh well...they are less expensive than cat toys, I guess. Laughing

Nisse and Mysan also love Q-tips, Aldistar.

I am just glad they do not know how to open any kind of doors... even if this might mean they are not too clever...

BTW, our little Mysan looks a lot like your Nugget!

I just found this site, which helps answer a burning question
which stayed in my mind ever since the summer of 1964,
when a fellow airman gave me a caged cat which was
thoroughly wild. The question was: what breed was it?

This was at the airbase at Saigon, and
the guy thought he got a real bargain for a carton of
Lucky Strikes.
Didn't take long for me to become aware that it was a
wild cat.

It simply would not allow a person to lift it up. I then released it near
my duty station,a receiver site at a remote
location on the base.

Here, now, in this website, the Asian Leopard Cat (ALC)
is discussed.

Just time for me to drop by and remind everyone here that cats are hell-spawn, the Devil's own minions.

I do hope all of your little demons are healthy and happy.
