I have a question for you all. My Schreech has had periodic blood in his stools of late (with mucus and all). Anyone have any experience with this?
no, but that doesn't sound good.
no, it doesn't sound good.
Littlek, keep us posted on Mr. Schreech--I agree with osso that it doesn't sound good.
Since moving to Denver, I have been without my cats. They are used to going outside in a large back yard, so I don't feel it would be fair to them to bring them here to Denver. Maybe Dys and I will get a kitten that will only know about being an apartment cat. I really miss those furry little critters.
BTW, abuzz won't let me in anymore as mmediane, so I have to sign in as Felix Noir, my portly black cat. He appeared on a few abuzz threads, but I haven't used that persona here. Anyway, it brings him a little closer.
I haven't had any experience with that either, littlek
Oh, sorry Diane, that must be hard.....
Littlek, it is--a cat curled up on a window sill or on a chair watching me cook, makes a home so warm and homey.
Roger, Fred the parrot is very cuddly actually, but not the same as a cat. I have grown to love him though and am thinking that a kitten would be best with Fred. I'm afraid that Felix would kill him, as he is a very good hunter. Of course, Fred is such a tough little character that he might just put Felix in his place. He did it with a doberman once by biting him on his nose. The doberman accepted Fred as the alpha male after that.
Sorry you're missing your kitty, Diane.

Hope it works out to get a Fred-companion.
Yeah, I know. He likes attention, too, but kittens are playful.
Well, get a kitten and bring her up in an apartment, and all will be well.....
I still feel cruel with one of mine, though.....sigh....
Little k - yikes.....hope it ISN'T a really bad sign.....
Hello all
Thank you for all your kind words & support. Flatty survived the biopsy (benign!), then developed the snuffles, followed by a nasty attack on his back by a vicious neighbourhood thuggy cat <sigh> .... So he developed a huge abscess, which had to be lanced last week. This has all been rather trying (AND hideously expensive). Ah, the trials of having an HIV positive cat! I have to watch him like a hawk! <sigh>
littlek
Please take Screech to the vet as soon as you can. That's very worrying.
Soz
Ah, I'm sorry about Tillie. It's very sad
Diane
Oh you must miss your darlings! I am sorry!
A kiss to all of your critters from me!
littlek, I just checked out bloody stool with mucus in my cat medical guide. The possibilities range from not terrible to not good. Too many possibilities to know without a vet running some tests. I hope the best for you and Screech.
I'm happy to report that Mikey is fine. He's eating me out of house and home, wreaking havok, and generally misbehaving. In effect, status quo.
BTW, Olga. Should a cat who's HIV positive be interacting with other cats? Just wondering.
It's a dilemma, Roberta. What to do in circumstances like this? My vet tells me that something like 30% of cats are HIV positive.
THIRTY PERCENT!!!!!! Oh my! That is such a lot.
Yes, but apparently most live their lives with little problems despite this.
Pretty frightening, though.
Olga, Is it contagious in the way that human HIV is? Does it progress to AIDS the way human HIV can?
The important thing is that Flattie is doing well. Give him a chin chuck for me, will you?
Is this HIV the same as what we call Feline Leukemia, or is it like the human disease? I hadn't heard of this before, so have to ask.
I dunno either, Roger, but doubt it is the same. It must be a similar virus induced immune deficiency syndrome though..
