Wonderful photos, Vivien!

Just back from NZ - where there seems to be a superabumndance of dogs. We were driving along, chatting about how much we missed cats in general, and our own cats in particular. The very next B&B we had booked into had 3 very social cats - so we topped up on cat attention. Our last place to stay also had a cat - so we were entertained aain.

When I got home, I didn't get the usual cold shoulder, put his back to me, treatment I usually get. I was very surprised that Possum deigned to talk to me after just half an hour or so! He's hardly left me alone since.

Vivien, what a beautiful pair of critters they are! Gorgeous, healthy & happy. What more could a person owned by their critters hope for? Himself & your(good)self should be very proud! Ahhhh! Very Happy

well, we've only had it a couple of weeks Reyn - my daughters cat had no interest in it, so she passed in on to us.

I expect it will shed hairs - but better that than the sofa - which Paddy used to head straight towards when he came in. He'd stop immediately he was told but would still head for it the next time Rolling Eyes

They love it and scratch enthusiastically so I hope that lasts.

It's funny how some cats like them and others don't.

Same thing with us. Our daughter passed down one that wasn't being used by her cats, but ours didn't like it either. So, out it went.

They seem to prefer the carpet type. Even amongst carpet type scratching posts, the quality can vary, too. Some are tougher wearing than others, depending on what the post is covered with.

Not all sisal products are the same either, as you can see from this one:

It appears that this sisal has been woven.

I tell you, the cat scratching business is big. Lots of competition.

Here's a pic I took that shows all four of the little monsters at once. I'm sorry it's so tiny, I don't know how to make it bigger...? But you can click on it to see it larger.

Sticky is the little tabby, Rufus is the big orange and white, Biggs is the gray rabbit (he's the senior member at seven years old), and Aero is the little brown guy. Very Happy

Good picture of two of them, and real cats, too. Sound asleep in the best chair in the house.

Know what you mean Margo. After a week's vacation in Montana, my three were actually friendly. Usually, it's just Barney that needs attention.

it's nice having a friendly welcome home rather than the cold shoulder Margo. Was NZ fun?

Cyphercat that's a lovely picture of them all - heaps of cuddly fur - gorgeous.

Paddy the Bad caught a mouse 2 days running - outside and the door was shut so he couldn't bring it in unlike poor msolga! Himself tried to rescue the first one which was squeaking pitifully but he grabbed it and ran off out of the garden. Horrible animal. I don't want rats or mice in the area but the playing with them is so nasty.

He hasn't adjusted to the end of British Summer Time and wants us up tooo early Sad - he comes in at night now it's colder.

Hi cat folks. Sorry I've been gone for so long. I kept getting error messages and couldn't post for a while.

Not gonna try to catch up with everything. Just a little.

Vivien, the mouse playing is horrible. But I'd rather have the mouse out of commission (eventually) than in my sight. Shudder.

Roger, Glad you got a greeting when you returned home.

Cyphercat, If I knew how to make the photo larger, I'd take a closer look. From what I can see, you've got a fine looking feline (or two?) there.

Reyn, Did I wander into a discussion of scratching posts? Mikey has one similar to the one in the photo. He uses it--any my grandmother's wing chair. Such is life with felines.

Mikey has been enjoying marshmallows. Big time. He showed some interest in them many years ago, but they're not something I have around often. I had a craving and bought a bag. Major hysteria. Shuddering with excitement and anticipation. The maniac monster cat tried to crawl into my mouth! He nibbled on my fingers to get the last taste. MARSHMALLOWS! Go figure.

Hi roberta! Doesn't your computer make the picture larger if you click on it? I wish I could just figure out why it won't post larger. It really is a cute pic!

I loved the mental image of Mikey and marshmallows Roberta! I can just see the quivering with excitement!

Rosie was like that with chocolate as a tiny kitten and then I found out how very poisonous it is for them so she was never given any more (she'd had tiny crumbs). Poor Rosie - her nose still twitches with interest but she knows she won't get any.

The image should come larger if you click or double click on it - it worked when I did it.

cyphercat, Thanks for the info. I clicked on the picture and got to see two beautiful cats in repose. And did I detect two bunnies on the floor? I haven't gone back too far in this thread. I keep getting error messages. Not on other threads. Just this one. So if you mentioned the bunnies, I wouldn't know. Also, I liked the chair.

Hi Gang,

Thought I was gonna lose Mikey. It was a long, long four days between the time I found another lump on his leg (the last one was malignant) and the time I got an appointment with the vet. A l-o-o-o-ong four days. The lump was not cancerous.

I thought I'd be coming home alone. Thought he was gone. I still haven't fully gotten myself back together again. Almost there. I love the big, monstrous lug.

Oh, Roberta!!! Shocked
That's just awful! I am so mightily relieved that the monster cat is OK, I can't tell you!
So how is he now? Feeling better? Coping OK? Please give him a great, big hug from me & order his very favourite food! Phew! Very Happy

And many, many hugs to you, Roberta. What a frightening experience! Aw, you poor thing! Sad

Going to the vet is always a major trauma for the big guy. No picnic for me either. He's ok.

Don't know how much stress a person can tolerate within a relatively short amount of time. I doubt that there's a definitive answer to that, but I have to believe I've exceeded my limit.

Big sigh.

I'll be sure to give Mikey a big hug from you. He's been overwhelmed with affection lately. He'll probably not mind the hug.

How's the Flat cat faring?

Flatty?
Oh, pretty much the same, Roberta. Snuffles, followed by the odd wound. Pills for both. Endlessly. <sigh>
He never was the brightest of critters, but I'm doing my level best to keep him as safe & sound as possible. The older he gets, though, the more he sleeps. Keeps him out of trouble!
Did you know that adult cats sleep away 80% of their lives? All I can say is that they seem to cause havoc in the remaining 20%!

It's a big trauma for my two older girls, but not for the youngest one. I just shake her kitty travel bag and she comes running and jumps right in. I zip up the bag and off we go. LOL

I've just had a helluva time trying to record a message on my answering machine. Every time I'd almost get it finished that rotten Flatty would meow very loudly & insistently! Evil or Very Mad Stop. Start again. Stop. Start again. .... It took seven attempts! I was ready to strangle him around attempt # 4. I think he was jealous I was talking to the machine & not him! Razz
