No such thing as humane treatment of ferals. Louis got lucky - got lost at just the right age and wound up with us.

Ferals destroy native wildlife populations. Crap, just good old housecats out for a hunt will do that. Capture and adopt feral kittens - but feral cats must die.

If we are going to go after ferals for habitat destruction then I want to introduce you to a few real estate developers who will be a bit worried....

Comparing real estate developers to feral cats is a vile slander of cats everywhere.

As well as no contest. When it comes to destruction of habitat the poor old ferals are not even in the race.

Evil or Very Mad she caught a bird this afternoon and let it go - poor little thing is somewhere in the house and we can't find it. I left the door open and hoped it had gone out but it hadn't - it suddenly reappeared this evening with both cats chasing it - it's upstairs

himself is turning everything upside down but it's a tiny sparrow and impossible to see. I'm keeping out of the way as tempers are getting frayed .....

Oh.
(So much for my terrific theories, Vivien! OK, I'll take that one back! )

Found that poor bird yet? Aw, poor little thing ..... Sad

no - Rosie has - unless it's another one - and I can't catch her or it. I wish she'd kill the poor little thing as it must be too far gone to rescue now Crying or Very sad

She knows I'm furious with her but is too excited to care

She is definitely getting a collar - I'm off to the shop later.

I hate cats!!!!! wondering where the body is isn't pleasant apart from the distress.

little swines deserve it!

They are both sporting red collars and cross glowering faces and jingling merrily as they go Twisted Evil

Paddy was furious but 'been here before' and settled quicker. Rosie kept trying to run away from the bell, my sympathy was limited, I asked her how she thought that poor bird felt and to get on with it Twisted Evil

She's still not my friend at the moment ...... but then I'm not her friend either

.... so there!!!!!

... will be by tomorrow .... unless i find a sad little body somewhere. I still don't know where it is.

I love these tales of Paddy and Rosie Vivien, and I'm so sorry to hear they're both in the "dog house" for the attacks on birds ... hope by now you've found the poor little sparrow:(

Paddy is outside guarding the kingdom ... he has found a new way to keep comfortable. I normally leave the patio doors open about 8 inches so he can come and go as he pleases, and since Paddy hates the heat, he has taken to laying inside, while his head is halfway outside so he has the best of both worlds!

Who ever said cats have a small brain?

Vivien,

A cat is a cat. If there's a cat and a bird, the cat will go after the bird. It's in their nature. Sorry to hear you were so angry. But I gotta tell ya that belling the cat makes me a bit upset. BTW, I love birds and would probably be as angry as you were if the monster cat went after one. On the other hand, I get angry when he doesn't go after mice. Well, he goes after them, but he lacks follow-through.

Yes, I'm back and being difficult on my first post out of the box.

Mikey is recovering from surgery--a malignant growth on his leg was removed. And he's now got a thyroid condition. I love the big, nippy, nasty lug. I'm worried about him.

Roberta is back!! Surprised Very Happy

And cranky, too! Surprised Very Happy

Please give that big feline lump of yours a heap of hugs, kisses & pats from me, Roberta. Poor Mikey, he didn't deserve that. Sad How is he coping in his day to day life? Has this caused major changes in his behaviour? I do hope he is still performing a few of his obligatory naughty tricks from time to time, Roberta. Very Happy Aw, poor Mikey! Sad

When I was a child I lived in rural Ireland. My grandfather had a tom called Jonkins. Jonkins would disappear for weeks and weeks at a time. When he came home we would (I had a large extended family living in the area) would send the word out that Jonkins was back. This in a district that, I hate to say it, disposed of unwanted kittens (yes it makes me cringe). But Jonkins was my grandfather's cat and back then Ireland was very much a patriarchal society. I think Jonkins was my grandather's alter ego - except I know my grandfather was not a man who strayed, as it were, he was much too honourable to do that.

I have this mental picture of Jonkins as a big, grey tabby. Am I correct?
