well .... I said himself had to put the collar on Paddy as I was already in his bad books for telling him off over the last bird. I ended up having to help so Paddy is furious with both of us and has refused to come in all day, running away any time we go near him.

He hadn't had breakfast as that was supposed to settle him down after the collar was put on .... but he went upstairs running away from the bell and then shot out and stayed out.

He's refused to come in tonight so I gave him a meal outside, which he's eaten but wouldn't let me near,

The bell is still jingling and collar still on.

We are persona non grata Crying or Very sad - as I said he can hold a grudge like a real little Celt so I don't know how long we'll be sent to Coventry Crying or Very sad

I couldn't have this ongoing slaughter of birds though.

Sophie located a mouse. It was on the lounge window curtain pelmet. She was heading up the curtains as I was heading for the pelmet. The mouse sprinted along the pelmet away from us and launched itself into space and landed near the stereo. It didn't miss a beat. Obviously a desperate move but it survived. Sophie beat me to it though. I chased her from the lounge into the kitchen and eventually she dropped it. Said mouse scurried into a corner and disappeared. She glared at me but what the heck, the little bloke made it.

Thank you Vivien she is a pretty cat - wilful though

A heart stopping moment, gf! Laughing
If ONLY these critters would acknowledge their luxurious, well-fed lives & act accordingly! Why do they attempt to murder the neighbourhood mouse/bird/lizard when they just ate a big serving of the chicken you roasted for dinner? Why isn't that enough, I ask? Evil or Very Mad

there's currently an ad on TV for butter, that has the squirrels, rabbits and birds etc doing the washing up, opening curtains etc while woman enjoys toast and said butter ...... I've tried explaining to Rosie and Paddy that they should pay attention and earn their keep .... but wilful gf? aren't they just!

Paddy had more or less come round by the next morning .... but this morning he came in .... no collar in sight Twisted Evil

He's now sleeping off the excesses of the night and Houdini escape from collar.

I'll try to get an updated photo of him soon

HE REMOVED THE COLLAR? Surprised Confused He's just outsmarted TWO adults!!!! Shocked

Now how did the little blighter manage that, Vivien? He must have had help.

This calls for drastic measures!

He should be sent to his room, right now! Or at least wash the dishes for a week! Yeah, that'll fix him RIGHT UP!

(Very clever, Paddy!)

he's in 'his' room now - blissfully sleeping in our bedroom as though butter wouldn't melt .... Evil or Very Mad

Yes, I can picture that!

So what next, Vivien? You're not going to give up this easily, surely? Very Happy

A report on Louis - he now goes outside and is a much happier kitty. He has met his mother though, an encounter that left him only slightly worse for wear as I chased her off. The mother and the two siblings are still living around the neighbor's house, though no one can get near them. We were hoping he'd catch the kittens and give them away when they were younger - but no. So now we have to call animal control because he is too big an idiot and probably fears what they might find in his dump of a house.

When we first adopted Paddy we put a collar and bell on him ... I thought he would go out of his mind, he was furious! We left it on for a couple of hours, then took pity on him and took it off ... we couldn't stand to see him so miserable. After all, hiding is cat play, they can't hide with a bell around their neck, huh?

Hope your Paddy is over the angst Viv:)

Well, Louis has had plenty of time to find out where home is, so more power to him. Probably about time for him to be neutered, though, if it hasn't happened yet.

I know, Misti. The only cats I've known to accept a collar, with or without lease, were siamese.

I bought a pair of collars as they were a good deal - must have been psychic! so we'll try again. Himself has to do it though as I am already low down in Paddy's estimation!

He sees me as Rosie's and he is definitely himself's - they go for a walk together in the evenings with Paddy absolutely bouncing ahead as though he's got little springs in his paws - he loves it.

I'm glad Louis is doing so well.

over here they have programmes of neutering feral cats - once grown they can't settle as 'pets' and that at least controls the population humanely.

I wonder if Paddy (from rescue centre aged 8 weeks-ish) was a feral kitten as he likes to be out so very much and is so unafraid - I'd wondered if Rosie would grow up that way as she was feral but of course very very young (2 weeks old and an orphan for anyone from another planet who didn't know!).

Yeah, Vivien, there's probably a bit of "feral background" there. But that's what makes his antics so endearing! He's fun! Very Happy (I've lived with a few feral boy cats. It's never been dull - despite the constant worry about their lack of common sense! <fret fret>) On the credit side, Paddy seems to have given Rosie a big confidence boost. I've watched a similar process with 2 very similar critters. You just cross your fingers & hope for the best with Paddy, because he's so delightful & smile at Rosie's new found confidence. Very Happy

I hope it didn't sound as though I'm not fond of him - I am, and he's an absolute delight to himself - and as all previous cats have loved me best it's a real ego boost to him!

... and a dent in mine!

He is a real character and his bouncy little walk is so confident and so him.

I have to admit I do love Rosie best! she has gained enormously in confidence and has definitly benefitted from his company even if it did have a very rocky start.

I think when Paddy gets through the sort of teenage stage he's at, then he'll settle a little. Our previous cats were less cuddly at that age but remembered the value of a warm lap later!

Evil or Very Mad she caught a bird this afternoon and let it go - poor little thing is somewhere in the house and we can't find it. I left the door open and hoped it had gone out but it hadn't - it suddenly reappeared this evening with both cats chasing it - it's upstairs

....... somewhere

himself is turning everything upside down but it's a tiny sparrow and impossible to see. I'm keeping out of the way as tempers are getting frayed .....
