Laughing Cuba is run by a dictator that allows only one party; Communist. I'm not sure there is a system of Government anywhere that could resemble "Republican" less. You "Democrats" would fall on the "Republican" side of the middle on a scale from Communist to Republican... and my politics would put me on the Republican side of the middle between "Democrats" and "Republicans". Where did you get the incredibly misinformed opinion that Cubans were "Republicans"?

The Cuban Americans of Florida are the Republicans, not those of Cuba.

Afterall, they are in the US in order to escape the communist dictatorship of Fidel Castro.

Snooker hates the people who fight against the communists (ironic given that he says he fought in Vietnam).

I suspect Snooker's politics run a bit on the socialist side.

Yes, Cubans are loudly anti-communist. I never said they weren't. The first Immigrants in 1964 learned english, worked hard, helped build Hialeah, where they did quite a job. The Freedom flights to come also brought in diligent Cuban people.
However, wave after wave if illegal immigrant Cubans were different in many cases. Castro opened the flood gates and let loose all the undesirables, opened prisons to flood our country again being (a dysfuncional country) let them in anyway, paid their rent, medical, college and free food.
Then comes Mariel. There were some good people, but the majority were criminals who actually made cocaine their main trade. They did a good job, until the Columbians controlled the trade.

Now Mr. Brown, do you actually believe that the United States is a True Democracy? We have a President that is as close to a Fascist that an American President could be. His administration leaks or "outs" an american spy whose job it was to find out who is supplying Nuclear materials. Who stacked the supreme court, and now is under fire for a lying Attorney General, who denied ever talking about firing those Federal Prosecutors.
If one works at the will of this President, he/she can be put in harms way for speaking the truth. A democracy that allows the Presidential Election be decided by a Court, that he manufactured. This is the Democracy of the United States.
The common thing to say now is, well it's the best around.

Jeeze OCCOM, I was talking about Cubans in Miami. They vote Republican. So they vote against the party who would allow for even more Intitlements.
Only you would consider need to explain why Cuba is not Republican. Now that a classic.

(From a Maryland resident to his senator)

The Honorable Paul S. Sarbanes
309 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington DC, 20510

Dear Senator Sarbanes,

As a native Marylander and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they
referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stem from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal
when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out.

Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year.

Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as "in-state" tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son.

Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college age children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.

Your Loyal Constituent,
Pete McGlaughlin

Hey snooky,
tell me what you think about Canada or does it not form part of your mindset as to the War of 1812 and as to the 1930's US plans to invade Canada, albeit as a presumably academic exercise.

What about your views on immigration and the movement of people across the shared border?

Are you aware of the significant disputes over the Vietnam war, the status of Cuba, the Iraq war, the War on Terror and of course the War on Drugs?

Are you aware that Canada and the United States are the world's largest trading partners and share the world's longest border?

That could be a good topic. Why not post it. Sorry to admit, that I lack the knowledge to make an intelligent response.
I do know that Canada is a caring country for it's people, free medical for all. I know that they back their workers and have a strong trucking union. That is probably the way they protect all of their people and workers. I use to ship a 48 ft freezer trailer and a 48 ft. Dry trailer to the Cunard Princess which docked in Vancouver every two weeks. Our truckers were not allowed to take the trailer's and deliver to the ship. They were met at the border and handed over to Canadian truckers.

I believe that Canada's Parliamentary Stye Democratic Government is actual better than ours at least until 2008. The people seem content, very low unemployment. There must be something lacking, as Canada's Dollar is 100% devalued to the American dollar.

I have gone to Victoria or Vancouver Island Salmon fishing twice. I love the country, it is beautiful.

As a Vietnam Veteran, I hold a minor bit of animosisty for letting Draft dodgers to live there to avoid being drafted.

You are a socialist.

Socialists believe in putting government regulation on business so that wages can be artificially raised. The want to pass laws to say who employers can and can't hire.

It is the socialists in this country who passed these immigration laws for just this reason. I don't think you or anyone else should be allowed to be an illegal immigrant. Everyone that companies want to employ, should be made citizens-- this is the democratic way. Everyone working here should have the same rights and responsibilities, and the way to do this is by making all immigration legal.

Or do you want to keed your government on the back of companies so they can't hire workers at the wages set by the free market.

If you hate America so much, you could always be an illegal immigrant in some other country.

Just walk away and don't look back. If you hear a loud noise then sing, whistle, or hum to block it out.

The countries like China, Japan are about to overtake our so called status of a super power.
I believe that a super power means more than having military might, (which we are lacking). But being held in high esteem and respected.
Your exactly right, we are the world bullies. Who the hell do we think we are. We should clean up our own back yard before trying to clean up the world.

As a Canadian, I much prefer the moderating force of the US, than the former Soviet's or Asia's military aggression / expansionism.
