Iraq is costing us more friends, destabilizing the area we depend on most for energy, taking the lid off a Pandora's Box of Muslim enmity, bogging us in a land it gets harder to disengage from.
1) Where is the cold-war arms race, as exemplified by the Vietnam war? Not present due to the Middle East conflict.
2) Where is the US high-inflation / mega-debt triggered by the cold-war arms race, as exemplified by the Vietnam war? Not present due to the Middle East conflict.
3) Where are the comparable number of US deaths in the Middle East conflict vis-à-vis the Vietnam war? Not present due to the Middle East conflict.

There is a simple enough economic (at least partial solution) to such heavy reliance on unstable Middle East Oil, that being:
a) Giving up the obscenely-prevalent, gas-guzzling, one-person one-behemoth SUV / Mega-truck, to be replaced with practical small cars and car pooling.
b) To rid the US of diesel-guzzling tractor trailers and revitalize the much-more-fuel-efficient rails.
c) Shall I go on?
The US is a victim of its own success / excess brought about by needless petrochemical reliance. Need I say more?

I don't want to turn this into a single topic thread. The damage to us from the middle east is going to fester and eat away at our well being a lot longer than Vietnam.
