Bravo, Edgar. I've been waiting for thought 1,000. An achievement. Does this mean no more thoughts from Edgar?

Y'know, I'm not usually one to nitpick, but 997, 998 and 1,000 were, technically, not edgar's thoughts. They were Dylan's, Cohen's and the Kingston Trio's thoughts. Come to think of it, edgar's done this to us a bunch of times.

Get back here, edgar. You owe us!

Anybody want to start at the beginning of this thread and count 'em up?
I'll take the first 100.

I have heard the aforementioned lyrics, etc., so often, I think them in my head all the time. Actually, I posted them, because they say so much of what I am about.

Obviously.

You're gonna hafta do better than that, edgar. After all, you've set our expectations at a very high level.

Okay. I checked the first 100 thoughts. 99 of them were, in fact, edgar's. Only one was plagiarized. That would be #90 by James Joyce (p. 13 of this thread.) I know there were more later. I'm writing these down, edgar, so there's no chance you're going to get away with this. Plain and simple, you owe us more thoughts.

We don't want your money, edgar.

We want our thoughts. Er, your thoughts. The ones you promised us.

100 - 500 (revised) I think it would be great to be a young hobo again. Never knowing when you will eat, sleep, stop to earn a buck. Being a settled old man is infinitely harder. On the road, I should have been dead, numerous times. Miraculously, I came through it all, with scarcely a wound. I was lonely and virtually friendless. But, with the thrill of viewing the passing land from an open boxcar, visiting cities I otherwise might have missed- - Like the Gambler, in Kenny Rogers' song- -I somehow broke even.

Veterans Day.
My older brother was drafted. They liked using him for carpentry here in Texas; therefore they did not send him to Vietnam.
My next in line age-wise brother felt that he did not belong in Vietnam. After boot camp, he deserted. He spent three months in Leavenworth.
Another brother saw duty on a nuclear sub. He did not see action, and was released early, due to personality conflicts that had him going AWOL.
I enlisted before ever knowing Vietnam was a country. The Cuban Missile Crisis happened during my term. In my last year aboard the destroyer, USS McKean, we became increasingly aware of the conflict. War service was wholly voluntary. A few months after the voluntary nature of it was rescinded, I was released and sent home. I considered re-enlisting to the army, but became aware of the fundamental flaw in pursuing the war in time to instead become a protestor. I am equally proud of my military service and my activities for the Peace Movement. I am also proud of my brothers.

In my dreams
In my genius
You are the one work of promise
I made you
Then you made me
Complete

In my grace
In my prescience
I gave you life
To live in my presence
I made you
Then you made me
Complete

And if I gave you wings
And a voice that sings
I did it all just for me
And if I gave you love
It was over and above
All courtesy

In my search for pride and power
I reached for you every hour
I molded you from lifeless clay
One shady day

Then I touched your sightless eyes
They opened like the sunrise
I wrenched a life from the clay
That perfect day

If we should ever reach the sun
I am the only one
Who touched it twice
And if I should ever die
You are the reason why
The one life could suffice
