@Roberta,
I believe that translates to sheee-it.
Hope you get that power back soon.
My phone woke me at 4:45 AM. A few minutes later, the entire house shook, followed by a brief downfall of heavy rain. Then, silence. I went back to sleep. Then, not long after, my daughter, who had to hop two gates to do it, beat violently on my door. Turned out, my street was full of news cameras, tree cutters, fire engines, cop cars, electric company, carpenters, sight see-ers, and so forth, beneath the drone of helicopters. This lasted from dawn until nearly dusk. My dog ran himself ragged at the fence, becoming covered with mud and splashing same on my daughter's car. We walked down and viewed the damage. For eighteen years I had dreaded the inevitability of such a scene right here. It is by a mere whim of fortune we were not victims.
@edgarblythe,
What happened? lightning? tree fell because of soggy ground and roots failing to hold? Tree hit by lightning?
Tornado. One of the neighbors down the street was killed.
@edgarblythe,
Whoa. Hope you and yours are okay - including where you live.
We are okay, CI. It was a day of inconvenience and some lost groceries, for us. Others were not so lucky.
Severe weather said to be headed here. We shall see.
Woke up to torrential rain, that lasted about fifteen minutes. Right now, the sun is out.
One of my cousins on my father's side is deep into genealogy. He recently had another cousin submit a sample for DNA testing. Now he wants a sample from me, so that they can combine all our information for a far ranging fishing expedition. I don't have the education to know what may turn up. Should be interesting, especially since I am such a mutt.
@edgarblythe,
Hey, edgar. No need to denigrate yourself. You're a nice guy, intelligent, and nothing to be ashamed of. Mutt? No way! I'm fortunate to call you a friend. Tak
@cicerone imposter,
But I'm proud to be a mutt. It means a wide variety of ethnicity resides within me. I believe it should be the wave of the future, to curb racism once and for all.

Why in the world would you consider it denigrating to refer to yourself as a mutt. Why do you think it's something to be ashamed of? Mutts are terrific--canines and humans.
@Roberta,
To each their own. Mutt = dog; not human.
@edgarblythe,
Hey! Tell me what you know of in your family tree.
I have Cherokee, English, Irish, German - that I know of.
@Lash,
I believe we have English, Dutch, Irish, Cherokee, Choctaw, Tejas. But some of it is not verified.
@edgarblythe,
I have Japanese and Japanese American. Both my parents were born in the US.
@cicerone imposter,
I suspected it, CI. I think people reading here realize we are promoting being proud of what we are. My next door neighbor raised her child with her husband, the child being fifty percent Japanese and fifty percent probably English or Irish, judging by the surname.
@cicerone imposter,
I have a trip to Japan on my bucket list. The photos and documentaries I've seen are exquisite. So lovely.
