@edgarblythe,
It's hard to impart knowledge and you keep facing that.

I don't suppose you'd like to write up a guide?

I wouldn't either, but even a compilation of some of your threads here could be useful in print form.

I don't know. All of the pertinent parts might not fill a book.

When Rocky was getting settled, his eyes more often than not, were solemn. I have decided it's because he felt insecure, having been ditched after a year and a half by his former owner. Lately they have become more loving and trustful. They are beautiful like that.

@edgarblythe,
I love dogs, they forgive and are loyal. (I've had a disappointing week, but I can always count on my dogs to be happy). Edgar, you've helped Rocky, and he will love you unconditionally. Dogs are so much more grateful than people.

@glitterbag,
It's a good thing. He's the only friend I have, around here.

@glitterbag,
We owned one dog when our children were young, and since that time I've always wanted another dog, and promised myself I'd get one when I retired.
However, with my frequent travels, I just can't take care of a dog as they need, so I've lived this long without one. Maybe, some day.

Looks like I get another full week on the job. It will take most of tomorrow to get the floor repairs done. Lugging the bags of concrete and taking down the rubble will be the hard part. I intend asking for help with that stuff. Not that I can't do it on my own, but why should I?

My prescription glasses wore out. My reading glasses work just fine, so I may not replace them. I can read the screen on my computer without any glasses. I have been looking into supplements for the eyes and have purchased a few things. That stuff is expensive. Each brand has a variation in their formula. Right now, I have lutein, and I have ordered a supplement on line. Vision Advantage, from David Williams. I also intend to get some grape seed extract and bilberries. Soon, I will see right through the screen and be able to watch every move you make. Mr. Green

Took an on line course for the company tonight. It utilized Youtube presentations, with a 10 question quiz at the end. I couldn't understand much of what they were saying. Don't know if its my ears or the presentation.The sixth segment, the person's voice was so low-recorded, I could not hear his voice, at all. I scored 40%. That's not good. They will likely tell me to take it again.

@edgarblythe,
That would be a problem for me too.
I've never tried close captioning, or whatever you call it, maybe that would help.

@ossobuco,
I will look into that next time. I have a second course to do before month's end. Plus four in Sept.

I got the concrete all down, as of today. It involved bringing 80 pound bags of ready mix concrete upstairs and mixing it in a bucket, using a length of pipe to stir it up good. In my spare time I went to home depot and bought a roll of fence wire. Which highlights a problem with the construction methods of the 1990s building boom. Speed was a primary ingredient to the successful project. In this instance, blueprints called for the stair and patio rails to have six inch spacing for the upright sticks. The welders "eyeballed" it, placing the sticks where they felt the urge to leave them. Some of the spaces are nine inches and more, because the guessing always favored using as few sticks as possible. We have to put up fence wire on many patios, depending if the residents have children or pets that may fall through.

@edgarblythe,
Not good by our codes back in the day - you don't want a toddler to fall through, as you said, and sometimes toddlers visit. I don't remember if it was local or national code (UBC) at this point. In our work, that would be a tear out/re do.
Does anyone inspect all this for the designer?

@ossobuco,
I don't know if the inspectors were paid off or what, but this shoddy construction was common in Houston's building boom. Maybe they just had too many projects per inspector. Those same rails would only be allowed four inches by today's building code.

@edgarblythe,
That's what I was remembering, the four inches..

I find some things here similar to what you are saying - I'm completely sure no one looked at my subdivision nor Dys and Diane's..

adds, back in CA, no one got paid until the architect or engineer signed off. There is a state board for people to complain to, and they do.

@ossobuco,
When I worked for myself as a small contractor, I was called by a big local builder to examine the roof on one of their sold homes. The roof was in terrible shape, brand new, and the home buyer balked. My job: witness the running of a water hose over the shingles; sign a statement that the roof is sound. I got up on top and was astounded to see the roofers installed the shingles right over piles of trash and scattered nails. I had to tell the man to forget about it and was not paid. I preferred to go broke to put up with that crap.

A new Sprouts store opened near here. Mrs edgarblythe and I went through it. But we had already bought our groceries for the week. I was impressed and also surprised. They sell meat. Not just beef and chicken, but exotic meat. We have agreed to go back the day before our normal grocery day, and get what we want from there first.
