The cold is a coming. I better wrap that yard faucet today. 24 degrees for several hours can be devastating, because people don't construct with freezing in mind, in this part of the land. I just may lose the moringa trees this year. But, they are cheap and they grow fast. I am considering making a small greenhouse later in the year.

@edgarblythe,
can you place a trash bag over the moringas until it blows over?

@Rockhead,
I will try that, but I am not hopeful. Smile

The plants are weak of limb and about seven feet tall. It will be a tricky process. The gusty wind will make it harder.

@edgarblythe,
When I got new plumbing after a big line break back in 2012 I was told my hose bibs now didn't have to be wrapped in extreme cold - some new hose bib trickery - I forget the details.

Just went out and looked: name on them is Woodford Model 17.

I am not as worried about the faucet as the pvc pipe it is mounted on. There are several feet of it above ground. Under the house, but, still -

I covered the pipe. Then I moved my octagon table away from the work platform and covered it up. Now I am ready to protect the three remaining moringas. Two of them have been leafless for about three weeks, but could survive.

The best of the moringa trees was the hardest to protect. I took two above ground swimming pool ladders that someone had given me and wired them back to back. Then I filled the space between, around the tree, all the way to near the top, with cardboard, paper and leaves. The top I crowned with a sturdy cardboard box. When I began, it was shirt sleeve weather. By the time I had it completed, my fingers felt icy.

It will be about 25 in the morning and about twenty the next morning. But, by Friday, the temp will rebound to over seventy.

Back to work today. Likely will be taking down the Christmas decorations.

It's 28 degrees on the porch. Soon the sun will out. It's really tomorrow morning I dread, because it will be several degrees colder. I bought some nice new gloves.

I saw a headline that says Dems may lose control of the Senate this year. Hope they are wrong.

It was 26 degrees on the porch last time I checked. They predict the temp will get above freezing by around ten. So far no real problems. Now, if no pipes burst at the apartments, where it is a little bit colder -

There is a box to the left of the screen pops up each time I change an a2k page. Very annoying, as it shrinks the rest of the page. Is it just me or does this happen to you?

@edgarblythe,
I'm not seeing that sort of action personally. Perhaps it's something that's messing with your browser. Do you ever change browsers (say, does it happen on Mozilla Firefox?) I'm viewing this with MS IE and Win7 OS...for a reference point.

How's your status reports and malware and virus protection been acting lately?

@edgarblythe,
I've been getting annoying popups on my screen too, so I downloaded two free popup blockers, and they seem to be working pretty good. The first one is AdBlock (they request a donation), and the second one is Popup Blocker. After you download these programs, they count the number of popups they block, and according to the two, the Popup Blocker blocks more popups than AdBlock.

You can also block any popups by clicking on AdBlock to stop any one from popping up.

I have symantic and Spybot. - I noticed some adds popping out on the Texas lottery page, too, now that I think of it. Hmmm

The big chill just gave Houston a glancing blow. I can unwrap my tree this morning. But I will save all that stuff in a corner, just in case. It's a long time until spring.

Rocky has developed a habit of running all the way around the house, when I come home. But by the time I get the lock off of the gate, he usually charges me. When I eat my dinner he seems to think he ought to be eating with me. Any time I eat in his presence he stands there and barks at me. I explain to him that I am alpha and that he is actually just a dog. He doesn't get it.

Speaking of dogs, I read about a puppy disappearing two years ago, to be discovered this week, swimming a few miles offshore, by two fishermen. I guess we will never know the dog's story.

@edgarblythe,
If you fear losing Rocky, you can always have a chip embedded into his skin.
