Free care is readily available. Visit St. Judes Hospital for kids, and you'll be singing a different tune.

Right, right. That's the solution for the millions of uninsured?

could any possible problems that uninsured citizens of the united states might have be solved by simply handing them a leaflet telling them where they may obtain free care ?
if free care is readily available to all , one could say that there are NO uninsured people in the united states - they'd all receive the free care they might be looking for .

might it perhaps be appropriate to provide a list through a2k of all such facilities ?
i'd think other sites might also be willing to provide such information - it surely would be a splendid service for all !

All patients on medicaid and welfare have access to this information, probably through their social workers.

is there any reason why it should not be communicated to EVERYONE ?
would that not resolve one of the points being made by people looking for UNIVERSAL health care ? if universal health care is available simply under a different name , why not let everyone know ?
that , imo , should resolve any major difficulties in obtaining proper health care , should it not ?
or are there any citizens that would NOT be able to obtain such free health care ?

Because most people already have insurance? That would be my guess.

anything wrong with making it availble to all citizens ?
i seem to recall that even some a2k posters were claiming that they were unable to obtain insurance - let me restate : affordable insurance .

We are supposed to be a great country, and yet we tolerate hospitals dumping poor patients on the street near shelters. Funny, if this were going on in France, the people would be in the streets with torches.

You don't need a universal healthcare: you get treatment for free.

America is the land of opportunity, not hand-outs.

If someone can not afford health insurance, perhaps a better, more lucrative career would be in order? Or, perhaps just a career that extends past picking up the food stamps and sitting on the porch smoking and drinking anyways.

(That should stir someone up I am sure.)

Just where in the u.s. constitution is free health insurance stipulated, hamburger? If you can find it, please quote it.

to pay for mounting medical bills.

Somehow I am skeptical of the completeness of this report and the veracity of the data provided. At age 77 this person is covered by Medicare - a truly universal healthcare plan available to anyone over age 65 in this country. Dyalisis is a procedure that, for those needing it, is fully covered by Medicare. Why did she really need the $50,000, and why did she sign the Mortgage? The Mortgage aspects of this story could just as easily have happened in Canada.

It is a sappy story - and an unbelievable one too.

MILLER'S REPLY :

It's totally believable story. The couple ran into trouble because they most likely didn't have a MEDIGAP health insurance policy, which would have filled in the gaps their MEDICARE policies.

The woman in question, needed the money to
pay her mounting medical bills. I believe her and recall that Medicare pays only about 80% of physician's fees.

If she had a medigap insurance plan, then one needs to recall that most medigap insurance plans
do not cover end stage renal failure. In fact if you have end stage renal failure prior to the start fo the medigap plan, the plan will not enroll you.

i'm sure both mcg and okie will be only too happy to let ms. barron know of their thoughts , it will no doubt be very helpful to her .

after all , as mcg put it : "America is the land of opportunity, not hand-outs.

and okie would no doubt want to ask ms. barron : "Just where in the u.s. constitution is free health insurance stipulated " .

we'll all now be able to sleep much better !
