I guess I will have to re-read "Witness" by Chambers again, plainold, I must have missed McCarthy's reference to Health Care being Socialism.

@MASSAGAT,
What are you talking about - "run roughshod over the Congress."? Congress is eating it up with a spoon and bragging about it.

@roger,
Congress is eating what up with a spoon? Do you mean Pelosi and Reid? They have really taken a long time at the meal, roger. They began eating last year and had to interrupt the meal because Senator Brown pulled the tablecloth off the table.

What happened then? Why the Democrats left the Republicans and many of the Blue Dog Democrats outside the "reconciliation" Restaurant door. Don't you remember?

@MASSAGAT,
I should have just said that Congress seems to enjoy Obama's use of it to consider it "riding roughshod". They (the majority) don't seem to feel they are being used.

@roger,
You have a point, roger, but look at the voting--NO REPUBLICANS voted for Obamacare either in the Senate or in the House. Some Democrats in the House did not vote for Obamacare. The other ones might have enjoyed it but there are people who doubt that for ALL Democrats.

Note the following comment by the famous Newsweek Columnist- Howard Fineman--In the first paragraph of the story, Fineman says that a Democratic Senator he cannot name said that the Senator voted for the health care bill reluctantly out of loyalty to his party but that the measure was political folly in part because of the way it goes into effect--SOME TAXES FIRST, MOST BENEFITS LATER, AND RATE HIKES BY INSURANCE COMPANIES IN BETWEEN.

@djjd62,
djjd62. I am very much afraid that you have named the wrong man. As you can see from Fineman's comment, the Senator he talked to was a Democrat, Chambliss is a Republican.

@MASSAGAT,
oh my, how could i ever have made that mistake

oh wait i know, all the douchebags look the same to me

no matter what you folks think of the people in your party or the other the last line of Animal Farm sums it up best

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

one of the few things i agree with hawkeye about is the clean sweep of the political system, throw everyone out, no more lifers, let'em come back and run again, if every sitting official was kicked out in the coming elections, it would send a message i believe

That is really "presidential" of him! Actually it fits the "community organizer" mold much better, doesn't it? After all, slogans are his specialty I suppose.

@djjd62,
djjd62- I hope you will allow me to commend you on your excellent choice of reading. "Animal Farm" is indeed a classic commentary on Politics. However, I have been guided more often by George Orwell's "1984". I believe that the messages in that book more closely parallel what is happening today, You may be familiar with the Appendix, djjd62. The Appendix is entitled "The Principles of Newspeak. It begins: (quote)
"Newspeak was the official language of Oceania and had been devised to meet the ideological needs of Ingsoc, or English Socialism.

It is clear that Orwell wrote "1984" as a portrayal of the horrors of Socialism--the same Socialism that Barack Hussein Obama would lead us into if only he had more power.

There are two things to watch, djjd.

l. The Unemployment Rate--Currently 9.7% U-6 measure 16.9%
Most Economists say that this rate will not be lowered to any significant degree by November 2nd, 2010. Obama's forces will lose dozens of seats.

2. The rising premiums from Insurance companies covering Obamacare. Most of the so called reforms will not go in until 2014! Millions of Americans will become very angry about these increases.

Cooincidence. Pure coincidence. Nobody deliberately intended for the consequences to be realized on a personal level till after the midterm and next presidental election.

@roger,
I must come to the conclusion, Roger, that you are using Sarcasm. Very well done.
I am sure that you realize that one of the key tenets of true conservatism is a proper regard of Unintended Consequences. But, I am not so sure that the left wing Socialists were not aware that Premiums would necessarily have to rise(even for non-profits) when such large responsibilites were thrown on them.
If a large number of these insurers have to go out of business, who will we find who can take their place? Why, the Nanny State, of course.

@MASSAGAT,
I guess you followed that through one more step than I.

I would probably lose both my conservative friends if it became known that I could support the right single payer (government) if they hadn't tried so hard to convince us that this thing wasn't going to add a dime to the deficit and would be partly paid for by a five billion saved from medicare without cutting anyone's benefits. I don't believe it; I don't think they believe it. It insults my intelligence.

@roger,
You are precisely correct, Roger--If you have a great deal of time on your hands, check out the number of government sponsored activities which are more efficient and effective than private ones.

In the city of Chicago, quite a few former government activities have been PRIVATIZED. They are working well since private companies must be efficient and effective or they will FAIL! Government never fails. More workers are added and sinecures created.

When they're ALLOWED to fail, you mean. You remember Bush's TARP program, followed by Obama's extension and stimulus package. Some of the worst legislation i'd ever seen.

@MASSAGAT,
in my mind it's got nothing to do with specific policy, it's the system, liberal, conservative which ever, it's busted

kick them all out and start again, might wake them up, if not, do it again next time, keep doing it until they get the point

my perfect election, everyone writes "none of the above" on their ballots

even better everyone writes their own name on the ballot, show them we are the government not them
