I've no doubt pms copied by recipients can be read by secondary recipients.
I've would be surprised if reported pms containing alleged spam or homicidal or pornographic threats cannot be read by the authorities they are sent to - but that would be a secondary situation, just like the receipient copying an original pm.
I've not a smidgeon of doubt that the admins and mods have no interest in reading pms at the primary level.
I've not a smigeon of doubt about the administration integrity.
I do agree with those who say if you are making accusations, be clear about them, either in this thread, since you make the intimating accusations in this thread, or through the help desk.
A question is one thing, accusations re administration are another.
Nod to Bella.

I agree with ebrown and Phoenix.

And thanks again, jes, for doing the wonderful, thankless job you do here on A2K. It is appreciated by all of those of us here who recognize the sacrifice you make personally to make the A2K experience better for everyone.

Kiss up Smile

Perhaps, but hers is a thankless job, nonetheless. When was the last time you thanked her for doing it?

I think TTH had a legitimate question. I realize that we all know how great things are here and how wonderful the mods and administrative people are, but she doesn't, and she's asking a simple question that she doesn't understand. So why is everyone getting on her case about it? She has her answer now anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter. I just wanted to defend her, because everyone else here seems to want to disparage her just for being concerned about something that makes sense to be concerned about.

Thank you. Are you a knight in shining armour or was that Gus who wrote that in a pm?

I'm just sick of people piling on just because they've been here for a while and think that they know everything and that someone who might not be sure about something is fair game for ridicule and derision. I think if someone has a legitimate concern or question, they should be able to pursue the answers without being attacked.

Not that I have anything against the mods or any problem with the answers they've given you. It's more the attitude that you got from people that I'm bothered by.

Even "safe" websites and what not can be hacked.

Any time you put personal information on the web, you risk someone being able to get it. If someone can build the encryption and the safety features, someone can hack it.

It takes 8 pages for someone to realize that nothing on the internet is private? How hard is it to understand?

The question was answered in the first response post.

I almost peed myself when I read that.

Jeez, there's a lot of smoking in here, don't you those things will kill you? I think the two tobacco junkies are right, sometime you're just looking for a straight answer and you weren't expecting the Spanish Inquisition which I know is from Monty Python, but you know what I mean.

Is there a bathroom nearby? It's important that you not hold your pee if you have to go. It can cause future incontinence. We wouldn't want that now would we?

What things? Me and Kicky?

Nah, we won't kill you. Might rough you up a bit, but we'll let you live.

I think TTH had a concern about the privacy UNDER NORMAL DAY-TO-DAY CONDITIONS HERE ON A2K.

It's like someone asking the same question after finding out that their phone may have been tapped by the phone company, and then someone coming along and saying, "Hey, stupid, you should have known that your conversations could be listened in on."

That is stupid. And that attitude is stupid. Much like many of the responses that permeate this thread.

And by the way, the question wasn't answered after the first post. It was answered by Jespah here.

No.....

What was said from the beginning is that you should never assume that your pms or emails or anything else on the internet is totally private.

Then she moved on to say it was the mods. Which was answered.

Privacy is an illusion and anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

Actually, her original question:

Quote:
If pm stands for private message then who besides the intended recipient is reading them? I have my doubts as to their privacy.

was answered in the first response post.

Quote:
Never assume anything on the internet is private.

Think about the number of places along the way that there are opportunities for someone to access anything sent/received.

Her accusation then was answered by Jes.

I know this is a really important question -- when exactly was TTH's question answered -- but can't we all just agree it was answered, and move on?

(I am feeling very Libra today.)

Ok, who cares.

I don't think TTH is going to be satisfied with any answer save NO ONE will ever see your pms, ever. Which we all know isn't ever going to happen so I for one am moving on.

I know Kicky, stop cheering.

No one WILL see your PMs, according to Jespah's answer, under normal circumstances.

The blanket statement that "nothing on the internet is private" is a cliche, and not a real answer to the question at hand.

Okay, I have to go PM Ticomaya now to tell him what a bitch I think bella is. (kidding!)
