ul, yesterday i wasn't able to link to a2k at all! Sad

Good news though, yaaaayyyyy! with congress making good the promises they made during their campaigns.

I am concerned though with Idaho and Alaska, both repbulican governors have signed on for the continued wolf shoots. Discouraging.

Another neat lady from another forum is also a teacher, and she talked to her students regarding the eco system, one boy was so upset after learning that wolves are not the killers of livestock, elk and deer herds that the governments of those states would have Americans believe - so during his computer class he wrote a letter to the governor of Idaho asking that the wolves not be hunted.

There are teachers and there are educators - you and mjc are definitely in the 'educators' category. Very Happy

stradee,
yes, I couldn't link to A2K and I often have difficulties- ever so often I read: Critical Error.
So I only post here, if the site works for me.

Feeling like the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland- No time, no time. I have now 2 jobs and term report time.
But for clicks is time.

Shazam?? What does it mean?

Stradee,
I am flabbergasted by the link re Paraquay. Papa Bush must be kept really busy keeping his kids out of jail.

ul, seems a busy time of year - there arn't enough hours in each day anymore it seems. Just finished removing pine needles from the house roof and storm drains. Spring cleaning in the dead of winter.
very odd weather

shazam [invented word; earliest recorded use in the date range 1930 - 1969] - Used by conjurors to introduce an extraordinary deed.

Plus, the word is also a square dancing term. I have no clue how to explain the words usage in that context though.

Shazam was biiiiiiiiig when I was a kid - and watching Gomer Pyle on the t.v.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/19/Gomer_Pyle.jpg

Quote:
Gomer Pyle was a good-natured, bucolic simpleton, characterized by his childlike naivety and his exaggerated hick accent. He originally lived in the fictional town of Mayberry and worked at Wally's Filling Station (which also served as the town's service station) where he took up residence in the back room. Wide-eyed and slack jawed, Gomer provided much of the comic relief during his two-year stint on The Andy Griffith Show. He was often awestruck by the simplest of things, resulting in the exclamation of his catchphrase, "Shazam!" He was also known to regularly spout other memorable expressions, such as "Gol-ly", and "Surprise, surprise, surprise!"

something for a teacher arrived in my email today

(dunno why, but it made me think about what danon musta been like as a little fella)

The Cowboy Boots

Did you hear about the Texas teacher who was helping one of her kindergarten students put on his cowboy boots?

He asked for help and she could see why.

Even with her pulling and him pushing, the little boots still didn't want to go on.

By the time they got the second boot on, she had worked up a sweat.

She almost cried when the little boy said, "Teacher, they're on the wrong feet." She looked, and sure enough, they were. It wasn't any easier pulling the boots off than it was putting them on. She managed to keep her cool as, together, they worked to get the boots back on, this time on the right feet.

He then announced, "These aren't my boots."

She bit her tongue, rather than get right in his face and scream, "Why didn't you say so?", like she wanted to. Once again she struggled to help him pull the ill-fitting boots off his little feet.

No sooner had they gotten the boots off when he said,

"They're my brother's boots. My Mom made me wear 'em."

Now she didn't know if she should laugh or cry. But she mustered up what grace and courage she had left to wrestle the boots on his feet again.

Helping him into his coat, She asked, "Now, where are your mittens?"

He said, "I stuffed 'em in the toes of my boots."

She will be eligible for parole in three years.

haha, ehBeth. That's a good story. My boots fit quite nicely, thank you..... Very Happy

Stradee, It's over as I post this. He did not mention anything about the latest rules governing Iraqi oil. He keeps that stuff secret.

True story, the PODUM (take off of POTUS - Pres Of The US) was given an oil company by his father to drill for oil in the MIDDLE EAST - and after almost a year had failed miserably to find any oil... Shocked Then, his father, told him to sell his company - (two months before the first Iraqi war) He used that money to buy a one percent ownership of the Texas Ranger baseball team. His fathers friends purchased the other 99%. After pretending to be the owner of the team and getting his name and face in the news - he ran for governor of Texas and won. Boy, talk about a great plan - his dad - HW Bush - is a master.

ul, that is unusual to have no snow this time of year in Vienna. I remember many Holidays there and it was always snow.

ehBeth, very funny story! Very Happy

ul, the weather today is very warm for January, clear blue skies, and not a rain cloud in sight.

California should organize a Midnight Quadrille raindance! It could work!

Dan, recall searching the net for gwb's legislative record when he ran the first time for president, and couldn't find one! not even at the official gwb website - except to say that gwb was governor of Texas with not much of an impressive record. Only in America could such a person become president - and almost 8 years later, gwb is a failed president.
What a legacy for HH Bush.
