We're finally getting Winter weather here in the City of Brotherly Beans. Going down to 11 F. tonight, lucky to hit 20 tomorrow during the day. No snow in the forecast yet (maybe flurries, maybe not). Enjoy your snow, ehBeth! Got to dig out the thermals. I've been wearing essentially Fall gear so far this Winter. Freezing temps are almost a novelty.

hehehe

snow

I'm happy. The dogs are deliriously giddy. Miss Cleopatra was rubbing her face on the layer of ice that's on top of the snow - the dogs are too small to break through the ice crust.

I wore clogs to work last week with a boiled wool jacket - this week it's shearling lined boots and a down coat - now that's winter ... aahhhhhh

Have fun, ehBeth!

Now here it is still too warm, although the mild nights are over. Light frost during the night.
Storm warnings for tomorrow and Friday.
Next week there might be snow..
about time, ski break is coming soon.

I wonder about the birds too.

Some time ago about 40 dead birds were found in Vienna near a subway station. After examination they found out the birds were drunk (!) and broke their necks flying into the station wall.
They had been feeding on fermented berries.

Clicked.

Today, temps are mild for a change! Hurray!

ehBeth's a happy camper! Very Happy

ul, we're still waiting for clouds to appear in the Califorina skies! Glad to hear winter may arrive for you also. yaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy

Merry, talked with my grandson who lives in Pennsylvania, and he said there's no snow but steady rain for the past few days. D.i.l's beau, and grandson race snowmobiles during the winter months, and apparently raceday begins Saturday. ehBeth, there may be an exodus of snowmobiles heading toward Canada! Smile

Dan, read where vets from both Australia and Texas suspect some sort of toxic poisoning. Thousands of birds perished in Australia. Sad Course, Texas closed off a few thousand streets {well, maybe not that many} as a precaution. Odd though that two similar occurances happened thousands of miles apart...can only guess what the final prognosis will be.

So the first signs of storm Kyrill are arriving- sky like lead, no wind in the streets yet, but the clouds
are already moving very, very fast.
In a couple of hours we expect 11 on the Beaufort scales.

stomp, stomp, slide, whirl- going to a ball tonight. Very Happy

Cold A.M's, warmer afternoons, Spring weather with a kick. Shocked

Most of the citrus crop is affected by subfreezing temps, farmers saying losses extensive. Advocado, lemons, lime, oranges, etc. Will cost a thousand dollars for one serving of guacamole! Confused

The wine industry boosts the economy {163 billion a year} so i figure a bottle of Chadonnay will cost less than an orange - unless the grapes are grown in California, then suggest serving water with dinner until the drought hits.

{sigh}

I think I have figured out why our clicks have been lower for the past few months. When Care2 recently asked for a confirmation of our email addresses - I think they obliterated the "free click" that went to AKTeams score. However, that same principle applies to all the teams clicking. So, while our score isn't rising at the same rate that it did before the address confirmations - all the rest of the teams clicking are in the same boat. In fact, the second scoring team has hardly clicked at all during the past three months - while we, the Wildclickers, have advanced with an average 28.285 clicks per day. Way to go Wildclickers Very Happy
From what I see, the #2 team is clicking 16 clicks per day.

Those "free clicks" still count toward saving rain forest......

Or, something like that...... Shocked

Speaking of everything being connected - the Bush administration just halted the monitoring of phone calls and emails without court orders (about time too). However, (not publically announced) the Pentagon has begun monitoring the same and private bank accounts under another old law. Hmmmmmm. Connections ?? Mad

Lots of damage in some parts of Austria, but Vienna was spared the worst. Some outer districts were more hit than the city itself. Just lots of rain and warmer temperatures.
We were lucky- and I am sorry for those who have been hit hard.

A good commentary from Robert Kennedy Jr regarding Global Warming:

Last week I saw robins and bluebirds in upstate New York where they don't usually arrive before April. Crocuses and daffodils were in bloom everywhere. A friend ate asparagus he harvested in the normally frozen Catskills in the first week of January. Turtles in downstate New York, like bears in Scandinavia, forgot to hibernate for the first time in human history.

For those last stubborn holdouts still skeptical about the existence of global warming--e.g., CNN's chief corporate fascism advocate Glenn Beck, who broadcast another of his denial tirades last week--and to those who exalt the warmer weather as preferable to a snowy winter, consider the impacts on our fellow creatures. Last April an early spring in Wyoming's Teton Range caused horseflies to arrive early. The young Redtail hawks, who were still unfeathered, were devoured in their nests by the voracious bloodsuckers. Not a single baby Redtail survived to fledge in the Jackson Hole valley.

The macro impacts of global warming--catastrophic storms, flooded coastlines, melted icecaps, shrinking glaciers, dwindling water supplies and agricultural disruptions are finally getting some attention by America's lethargic press. But the seismic shifts in global weather patterns are already dramatically altering the local ecosystems that for eons have defined America's landscape. Nature has achieved a balance that has been relatively stable for 20,000 years. The reliable milestones of its annual rhythms--like flowers blooming and robins returning in the spring, and animals hibernating in winter--form the pulse and fabric of the passing years. They connect us to our history, give context to our communities and form the foundation of American culture, our art, literature, poetry and architecture.

The recent disruptions to animal and plant behavior are evident to anyone except for ideologically blinded right-wing flat-earthers and Exxon/Mobil's political and media toadies like Michael Crichton, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck.

Finally! Very Happy

In a tremendous victory for our new energy future, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the CLEAN Energy Act of 2007 yesterday, taking billions of dollars in subsidies away from oil companies and investing it into renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.

The Bill will:

-- Recover money from a current loophole in oil royalty policies that allows companies with certain 1998 and 1999 Gulf of Mexico leases to escape royalty fees.

-- Prevent major oil companies such as ExxonMobil from claiming a tax deduction for geological and geophysical expenses enacted in the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

-- Remove a tax benefit that lowered the income tax rate paid by oil companies by reclassifying oil and gas production as a manufactured good.

Stradee,
You are right about Bush............. Except for one thing.............

He needs not OFF SHORE accounts .

The only thing he needs in this case in an inheritance from his parents - - - via the "Carlyle Group" http://www.hereinreality.com/carlyle.html

His family history on BOTH sides of his parents is affuent to say the least... He is the epitome the "Spoilled Rich Kid".....

His fathers ancestors sided with Adolf Hitler during WWII - not only after the beginning of the war - but, for a full year after the war started......

JEESE !!!!

Takes an idiot to figure that one out......?

And I didn't mention anything about G. H. W. Bush's back ground....

Just GOOGLE 'Bush Family History'

or -

Just GOOGLE = "Failure"

or -

Just GOOGLE = "Miserable Failure"

in BOTH the last two cases you will see =

George W. Bushes Biography

Dan, i read the last link you posted {at another Rainforest Thread} plus researched, and the bush family has much to answer for.

googled "gwb land purchase" and found the link.
{not familiar with the website - but it has interesting links to other stories about the bush family's association with Paraqua}
