Anyone see the eclipse last night? It was way too cloudy here to see the moon, eclipsed or not.

Good to see the trees back in shape-

Vienna in autumn? I would love to meet you- can you squeeze us in your travel plans?

No chance to watch the lunar eclipse. Just minutes before it started we had torrent rain and wind up to 90 km/ h.

Squeeze ul? but of course! Very Happy

Right now we're planning a ten-day trip, sometime between October 15th and November 15th. I'm looking at different websites, trying to figure out what's going on that's going on in that time frame. We (my friend Eugenie and I) plan to spend most of our time in Vienna, really wandering around - going to museums and coffee shops - simply having a good time. I think we'll do a 2 day trip elsewhere - Budapest seems to be tops on a lot of recommendation lists - and I understand it's fairly easy to do a quick visit to Bratislava as well.

I'm most worried about turning my ear to the sound of Austrian German - it's not something I have a lot of experience with Shocked

Oh great-something to look forward to!
There is a lot you can do here.
Hamburgers will have a lot of recommendations, I guess.
Planning to go to the opera, concerts too? If I can help you with that, please let me know.
Budapest is worth a visit.
Bratislava - you can go by boat, a fast nice ride -75 minutes from center to center. It is called Twincity liner
http://www.twincityliner.com/english/index.shtml

Austrian German is very easy- far easier than Bavarian

hamburger's biggest recommendation is the Dorotheum - seems he had a lot of fun there when they visited. I'm wearing a bracelet he got at one of the auctions there.

Concerts and opera? I didn't know we'd be allowed to leave Vienna without those experiences Very Happy

Re Lunar eclipse-
my son was more lucky, he took some pictures last night.Lunar Eclipse over Vienna

Aunt Dorothea, yes this is fun. If you are an early riser the Flea market is a good source for fun too. Best around 6 am...and then breakfast in a coffehouse.

Ah, this Texan is green with envy....... Shocked We are waiting to see how Patti is during that time frame. It would be so nice to visit Vienna and see two Wildclickers at the same time. Very Happy I'm not holding my breath though - Patti has not been doing well.

Yes, Budapest and Bratislava are must see places..... And so is Sopron, Ungar if you can do that. So much to do and see - your short stay isn't enough time. Then there is Znojmo, Czech Rep (pronounced Tsniam) and/or - - - oh, never mind, a week will not allow you to make it. Crying or Very sad

I agree with hbg - the Dorotheum is fun. Very Happy

You should have a cup of coffee in the Hotel Sacher - it's right next to the Opera House. Good coffee and NICE ashtrays............. Twisted Evil

Tell us more later about your plans..... Very Happy

Merry Andrew, I like your view on signs.....

((Ladies, please disregard this next thing.......))

The one sign that most interested me was at a public park in Seattle, Wa that said, "No Head In Parking." Honest, that's what it said.

More snow in Toronto?

Hard to believe if I look out of the window here.
Bright blue sky, warm sunshine, 17C.
I think- and hope- winter is over.
Very Happy

It's definitely over here in TX - in fact, it never really made it here. One or two nights freeze - and, it's over.

The way things are going - we (except for ehBeth) can all grow our own bananas.... Shocked

Thanks to all for the good wishes - Patti's MS is debilitating - but she does have some good days and we like to make the best of it and get out of the house.

Winter over?

It was 7 degrees F this a.m. During the day it hit all of 17 or 18 but the wind-chill was severe. More of same tomorrow. Spring will be late this year. Very late. There's been no real snow to speak of, but starting in mid-January the mercury just plummeted.

All the best to your Patti, Danon. She is in my thoughts.

Set and I went to a working rehearsal at Tafelmusik tonight - they were working through some Jean-Féry Rebel - really interesting to watch/listen to the changes they made. I'm looking forward to Saturday's concert - experiencing the final result.
