@Region Philbis,
I see on tv, that theyve shown the "Roaming Gnome" getting more and more hysterical as he plans his getaways.

I think hes gonna go postal on us.

This pending snow storm is putting all of us in schools on high alert. The kids have convinced themselves that there will be a snow day and are busy not doing homework or studying for exams. The super will have to try and see into the future about when the snow will hit, build up, etc. Shutting schools down early is mayhem, not really an option. Keeping us in is great for many, but not for those who commute long distances (esp from spots West and South). And, there's a potential for a late start on Thursday morning. My guess is that we'll have school tomorrow, and that there will be no early release, ridiculous commutes home, and a delayed start Thursday morning. Wish I had the work-from-home option.

@littlek,

4casters dropped the ball once again...
do they intentionally err on the side of caution to prevent another '78?

Prevent a '78? We had a fiasco just a couple years ago - I think that's what they're trying to prevent. Plus, last week's mid-atlantic storm is still fresh.

@Region Philbis,
I think it was 2007. We got close to 20 inches (could be way off on that number) during the day and everyone trying to get home spent hours on the road. Some abandoned their cars in random places around Boston. I am not thinking of snow fall totals, I am thinking of daytime snow fall making the evening commute home crazy.

@littlek,

was that the friday afternoon storm?
might've been '06 or '07.
we got ~ 8", but it was early in the season and the salt spreaders weren't loaded or something.
traffic was at a standstill, and the greenline wasn't able to run on comm ave for some reason, so i walked home from kenmore...
