Lots of snow falling now -- about 2 inches so far, supposed to be 3-5. The change to rain/ ice worries me though. We'll see.

We've gotten about 2" so far with 6-8 expected by morning. The bulk of the storm is passing to our south.

I use Weather Underground.

They upped the total to 10.1 inches in Boston.

They are also predicting little more than 3-4 inches in this next storm. I imagine there will be ice as Jespah said. The term they use is "ice pellets".

We started getting the ice pellets when I was getting back from grocery shopping this morning. I'm sure glad I've got ice and snow tires on the little car. It was like driving on ball bearings - lots of cars slipping and sliding out there.

Does anyone know what the weather is going to be like Monday in Boston? I have a 6:20am out of Logan Very Happy home to my little Big Island in the sea.

Raining.

Little icicles forming on trees.

Eek.

E.G. and I couldn't remember whether or not it snowed first or rained first during the big ice storm/power outage of 2004, so I went and found this earlier today. (A2K can be useful in unexpected ways.) Seems to be similar-ish so far. Fingers crossed.

It was beautiful fluffy snowflakes earlier, about 2-3 inches accumulation, then when sozlet and I were out doing some shopping in turned into those pellets, like tiny hail -- it HURT! Decided to get home before it got super-sloppy. Definitely had to drive carefully. It was raining by the time we got home.

I shoveled because the forecast is for dropping temps and more snow, and I know from experience that the snow/ rain mixture (the snow is still out there, just saturated) becomes ice and impossible to deal with.

I don't like those icicles.

eastern lake ontario
-----------------------
woke up to about minus 20 C this morning Shocked
on the way to the library we drove by and stopped for a while at the shores of lake ontario .
the lake was steaming and it looked as if it was boiling - the warm water from the bottom rushing to the top - quite a sight . it always happens when the temperature drops suddenly at the beginning of the winter season .
stocked up on books and DVD's at the library since we expect 30-40 cm of snow in next 36 hours (90 % probability - maybe we are lucky and get the 10 % = NO SNOW Laughing ) .

Whew!

Nothing in particular happened last night. Woke up to depleted snow (less than when we went to sleep) and some unfrozen puddles. No apparent ice. Snow is falling now -- light, powdery stuff. A "blowing snow" advisory but that's it.

Big whacking heaps of snow here. The little dogs didn't quite know how to get around in the backyard - and came back in soaking wet.

The dehumidifier just kicked in, in the basement, so I know that the snow's as wet and heavy as it looks.

Do I want to go out to dance class? Maybe not. I'll have to think about this.

Just like in "The SHipping NEws" the LAncaster weather headlines were
'LANCASTER COUNTY SPARED RAVAGES OF DANGEROUS WINTER STORM". Laughing

News folks can have it both ways

I've never seen as many as 5 weather warnings for Boston. Right now we have winter storm, coastal flooding, wind advisory, special weather statement and public information statement.

It's turned to a mix of ice and snow. We have maybe 4 inches of fresh snow out there. It's hard to tell because the wind gusts have knocked much of it off tree limbs and fences (my usual gages).

Poor little winter birds!

At least 4 inches on the ground; snow started at maybe 5 AM or so and it's been freezing rain since, I think, about 8:30, 9 AM or so.

Yet more love from the weather channel:

Bud Light?

I have a few porters in the fridge. However if I actually did crack one, I would just have to check into AA after this weekend.

There's a pretty damn good chinese place across from me, almost chinatown good. I just put an order in, and getting dressed to get it is going to be very difficult. If I'm not back on today, I passed out in a snowbank.
