Have you noticed the estimates keep increasing? First 1-3 inches, then 3-6, then 6-10, now they're just calling it a foot. Whatever it amounts to, right now it's coming down hard and fluffy. It's quite beautiful.

Merry Andrew left school at 1pm and it is now 3:40 - last call he was in the Kenmore Square area. However he did make it to Shaws and got some grub.

I was originally sceduled to go back to the Big Island today and changed my reservation. Wonder what time the airport closed down.

The snow-weenies here at work are already planning an early exit today.

I said to one, "Weren't you here in '78?"
"Yeah," he said. "I was two years old."
"Oh. Never mind."

I remember 78' lived on Grove Street on Beacon Hill. Folks were using Grove Street as a ski slope and the snow was piled 10 foot high on either side of the street. Got a whole week off work. Thank you Mayor White.

Merry Andrew has made it as far as The Children's Inn on Longwood and his windshield wipers konked out on him. And he has to tinkle. So that's 3 hours + on the road.

Poor Merry Andrew has been stuck in traffic for over 5 1/2 hours up on Pill Hill. I called friends that live in the area and if he can find a place to ditch the car he will go over there. Thank goodness for cell phones.

Yikes!

Hope Merry Andrew makes it home OK...

Sounds like a doozy!

(I know it's unseemly to be jealous so I won't be. But it's just raining here. And I have my new cozy warm waterproof winter boots on [purchased after mincing around trying not to ruin my normal shoes in the slush].)

Merry just called from the parking garage, they finally got the bus moved and he got rid of the car. He should be home within 10 minutes. I be waiting at the door with a hot cup of coffee.

Whew! Can your imagine being stuck in snow storm traffic for over seven hours. I hope he doesn't get sick. I suggested a hot shower immediately and dry clothes. He is no doubt soaked through and through and no storm boots.

He'll appreciate your concern.

I went to the gym during this mess, and a guy on a motor scooter goes by me the other way. Good for him.

I hate snow. It's like God's little bukkake party.

Merry is home safe. He looked like a drowned rat when he came through the door. Handed him his cup of coffee and helped peel wet clothes and started the hot shower. He's in there now.

Got meatloaf and hot mashed potatoes on the stove. Warm him up and get him to bed early.

Thanks from him for good wishes.

Yucky out there. RP is shoveling. Plows go by on occasion (we're on a secondary access road). The bus stop is also on a secondary access road, but they're parallel to each other so somehow we have to get from here to there. RP's smart and will be working at home tomorrow. Me, I have to go in and do charts and graphs and the like.

According to weather.com:
Quote:
HEAVY SNOW HAS PUSHED EAST OF THE AREA AFTER SNOW ACCUMULATIONS GENERALLY RANGED FROM 5 TO 9 INCHES...EXCEPT A SWATH OF 10 TO 14 INCHES FROM NORTHERN CONNECTICUT THROUGH NORTHERN RHODE ISLAND AND INTERIOR SOUTHEASTERN MASSACHUSETTS.

LINGERING LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS OR FLURRIES WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MIDNIGHT...BUT WITH LITTLE OR NO ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATION.

Sunday, note: 70% chance of precip. Supposed to be a Nor'Easter. So this ain't the end, my friends.

Statement as of 07:31 PM EST on December 13, 2007

... Record daily maximum snowfall set at Boston...

a record snowfall of 8.4 inch was set at Boston today. This breaks
the old record of 7.0 set way back in 1902.

From wunderground

What a friggin mess! It took my landlady 3 hours to drive probably 3 miles.

I understand exactly what you are saying Dag. Most of the problems today were caused by people who do not know how to drive in the snow and create ungodly traffic screw-ups with the first snowflake.

What is usually a 15 minute drive for MA took 7 1/2 hours today. I feel so badly for him. He's had his shower, dinner and has gone to bed absolutely exhausted.
