Good job, Region.

It's been gorgeous here, I've done a bunch of yardwork too. Everything's blooming and green and total spring if not early summer.

Problem: while the high today is supposed to be 79, the low tomorrow will be 31. :-?

And for the next several days, the lows will be in the high 20's. Evil or Very Mad

Will that kill everything?

hopefully not.
we're stuck in a rainy rut (30's & 40's) all week...

five or six years ago i had to cut down the small maple that had died in the backyard.

i never bothered removing the stump because it was out of the way, next to the garage.

well, i was back there on sunday raking around it, and i accidentally nudged the trunk.

surprise, surprise, surprise -- it moved! Shocked
i always figured it was gonna be a permanent fixture for the duration.

so i picked it up and put in the garage to dry.
one of these days i'll chop it up into firewood...

Variable temperatures here in the Poconos. I'm very annoyed with the limitations imposed by my stiff arm/neck/shoulder.

As yet we have no leaves on the trees, but I'm sneezing from tree pollen. Forsythia is starting to bloom.

We've got it all. Crocuses are done. Daffodils, forsythia, and magnolias are all in full bloom. Miscellaneous flowering trees are blooming. Grass is lush and green. Leaves everywhere (hydrangea, honeysuckle, etc., etc.) Lilacs are budded and close to blooming.

I looked up daffodils and apparently they should be OK -- haven't found one reference for the whole group though ("late frost effects" tends to turn up scholarly studies about certain kinds of trees, etc.)

We had an interesting view of the progression of spring as we drove back and forth from Chicago to South Carolina last week. Azaleas and dogwood in full bloom and young leaves on the trees in SC, red bud and forsythia at peak throughout NC, TN, and KY (various degrees when at elevation), early forsythia, daffodils, and red bud buds only in Indiana, some daffodil buds, forsythia yellowing here.

Mrs. Walter is just now in Italy: as if it was summer compared to here. (Though most daffodils -and nearly all magnolias- are gone meanwhile here - took them out of the pots this afternoon and planted some new summer flowers instead.)

I can get very sentimental about the first dandelion of the year.

Ack.

Quote:
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON HAS ISSUED A FREEZE
WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 10 AM EDT
THURSDAY.

A VERY COLD AIRMASS WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD ACROSS THE OHIO
VALLEY. THIS WILL CAUSE TEMPERATURES TO FALL BELOW FREEZING
TONIGHT...WITH READINGS REMAINING BELOW FREEZING FOR MORE THAN
FOUR HOURS.

DUE TO RECENT UNSEASONABLY WARM WEATHER...THE GROWING SEASON HAS
BEGUN EARLY THIS SPRING. THUS THIS FREEZE MAY HAVE AN IMPACT ON
EARLY BUDDING PLANTS.

THOSE WITH AGRICULTURAL INTERESTS IN THE WARNED AREA ARE ADVISED
TO PROTECT TENDER VEGETATION. ALSO...POTTED PLANTS NORMALLY LEFT
OUTDOORS SHOULD BE COVERED OR BROUGHT INSIDE AWAY FROM THE COLD.

I'm really worried about what's going to become of this summery landscape I'm looking at! No way everything can be protected.

Awesome. I'm waiting for my plane at the Jacksonville(FL) airport right now, wearing shorts. Never checked the weather.

At least I got a couple days of 80 degree weather.

Dang, I so did not want to commute home in cold frosty muck. The upside, though, is I made matzoh ball soup.

No, it was an awful trip. Terrible.

3 days, 2 nights, spent about $10 total. Work paid for hotel, on a golf resort, lunches, dinner, drinks, golf lesson & round of golf.

Oh yea, and 80 degrees/sunny. But now I'm back in hell.
