@eoe,
Yeah. Just like Ahnold was born to play himself -- an android.

It was such a flop at the box office that the DVD edition includes the original version which is kind of dangerous logic. Most will likely watch the new one, then watch the original!
Spoiler Ahead
The original did warn all the leaders of the nations on Earth that the robots would end all life on the planet, so ultimately that was the same concept -- it was the explanation point after all the suspense.
I have owned the original on tape for several years. I was happy to get it on DVD.
Saw animated film... Bolt
Cute film.
@vinsan,
Saw Wolverine it was good......plus saw Star Trek um yeah kind of okayish
@Merry Andrew,
To be fair, Ahnold finally turned in a good performance in "True Lies," and it was the last film that made any money. Of course, it had its light weight, comedic script and Jamie Lee Curtis. The Governator promptly went back to making movies exploiting "his box office," like "Eraser" and "The 6th Day" and none of them, including T3 made money. I makes you wonder if he didn't start investing in these films to get them made as one flop was followed by another. When he made T3, his box office draw had waned considerably. So what does he do? He runs for a political office. Remind you of another bad actor who did exactly the same thing? He could have played a cyborg as well. At least a cyborg with one-liners as lame as Ahnold's. It's why MacDonalds is so successful -- junk food, junk movies.
@Lightwizard,
I liked "True Lies" alot. Could have done without Tom Arnold, tho. And I liked "Eraser" also. The chemistry between him and Vanessa Williams was undefined but interesting all the same. After that he should have called it quits. "The 6th Day" was a disgrace.
@eoe,
I also liked both
True Lies and
Eraser. How could you not like an action flick with some sort of plot line and a little humour?
I just watched
The Truth about Love, which is a chick flick i had never heard of.
Again, how could you not like a film where the sleazy husband gets it in the neck and the right guy gets the girl?
I watched Open City, which I'd seen before, on DVD.. and stopped it about 3/4ths through, for non film reasons, and ended up sending it back to netflix since I didn't re-engage.
I think I'll have to pick it again and catch the ending. Anyway, the movie still interests me.
I watched this ridiculously asinine movie the other night called "I Could Never be Your Woman" with Michelle Pfeiffer. She has never appeared in such drek before and it saddened me to see her in this. Like that foolishness that Diane Keaton stooped to star in a few years ago, "Because I Said So". I guess it's true that there are not alot of good roles for women of a certain age in Hollywood but geez, both of these movies were trite and unnecessary. And these are two award-winning actors. Where's the integrity?
My summer vacation, I prefer to call it that, even though I still have to work my skinny behind off, has started so I can invest time in slightly better fare than the usual no-brain-activity-required, end-of-a-stressfull-week, wind-down, entertainment flicks. I am hoping for special offers like the 10 titles for 10 days of last summer.
So far seen:
- Atonement (2007), period drama, better than what the critics had made me believe
- Venus (2006), generation gap drama, quite good.
- Kalteva torni (Leaning tower, 2006), drama with comic elements about a Finnish mental patient in Italy, good insight in a confused mind.
- 28 Weeks Later (2007), becasue I had seen 28 Day Later. the sequel has bigger effects and names, but less originality.
- Mies vaille menneisyyttä (Man without past, 2002), romantic comedy, only for those who can stomach Kaurismäki's über-Finnish style of humour.
- Stander (2003), action flick with real bank robber as hero (am not too comfortable with actual criminals being portrayed as heroes).
I went to the theater and saw The Limits of Control. One of the worst movies ever made. Almost no plot, no substantial dialogue, weak, almost non-existent performances. Jarmush has fallen from his throne.
@Paaskynen,
"Atonement" deserved the Oscar -- it's literate, cinematic perfection.
@Lightwizard,
Open City, which I'd seen years ago, still held up in many ways, until towards the end, when I got sleepy and I or the movie lost focus, probably both, and I never finished it, wanting to get the disc back to Netflix.
Sitting on my desk - Bertolucci's The Conformist, which I also saw a long time ago..
@ossobuco,
Incredible movie, I think Bertolucci's best even over "Last Tango" or "The Last Emperor."
@Lightwizard,
I remember liking it, Light, hence my ordering it on my disc trip through my movie past. I'm on an italian kick (what a surprise) but may be moving over to a japanese kick soon. Ichiru (sp?) soon... I saw a whole bunch of really good japanese movies at the Fox Venice.. would like to revisit some of them.
Did you ever see Bertolucci's Besieged? Lightweight as his movies go, but I enjoyed it.
@ossobuco,
The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke.
Only I still haven't seen it all the way through!!! I keep going to sleep.
This is not a problem with the film, it's great...it is because I have tried watching it after work, and I am so tired I fasll asleep.
Just the last bit to see now.
This weekend we did:
- Sukiyaki Western Django (2007), Tarantino's over the top hommage to Kurosawa's Jojimbo (via Per un pugni di dollari, maybe Last Man Standing and probably a smattering of other titles), too over the top for me.
- The Princess Bride (1987), so many US commentators loved this fairytale from their youth that I needed to see it, harmless fun.
- Hallam Foe (2007), drama, disturbed young man has to come to terms with the death of his mother.
- Severance (2006), horror comedy, which is a bit thin on the comedy.
- Whale Rider (2002), excellent magic realist drama from New Zealand
- Onnen Varjot (The Midsummer Child, 2005), relationship drama about involuntary childlessness. I could not relate to it.
@Paaskynen,
good to read you again paasky
saw Quantum Of Solace...not as good as Casino Royale...they're setting up a whole new genre of 007 seems to me
Because a houseguest was intrigued with the cast, put on Ocean Twelve again last night and tried once again to watch it all. None of us could stay with it however, and we took it off (again) after the first half hour or so. Terrible movie. So I still haven't seen it all the way through.
DEFIANCE-A story about the Bielski partisans in WWII. They reluctantly became the saviour of many of Jews in Beilorus after they set up a permanent "Robin Hood"style of forest encampment for all the disposessed.
It was a good story.
