@Paaskynen,
And:
- Hymypoika (2003, Young Gods) Can we please have a movie about Finnish adolescents where the boys keep their clothes on?
- Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo (2004, Brotherhood of war) Korean war film, the number of sfx war mutilations is astounding.
- Never Back Down (2008) Young buff boys fighting; amazingly, a title requested by our daughter!
- The Mist (2007), predictable, if you have seen Stephen King films before, but nonetheless amusing.
- The Happening (2008), I am becoming a definite fan of Shymalan.
- Kurenai no buta (1992, Porco Rosso), aviation anime, very entertaining.
- Next (2007), amusing enough parapsychologic action movie.

One of my favs"Pocketful of Miracles with Glenn Ford and Bette Davis. It's not exactly a Christmas movie but it has the feeling of the holidays. I love it.

Rated X with the Sheen brothers as porno movie makers in San Fran. It was pretty interesting but I just can't believe that one brother murdered the other and only served three years in prison???

The Spiderwick Chronicles
First saw this on general release and loved it to pieces.Just re-viewed on DVD and I still do.It's a cracking fairy tale for kids of all ages.We get to see Goblins,Ogres,a Griffon,assorted fairies,all ably supported buy some pretty believable CGI,a lively soundtrack (all speakers get a good work-out in Dolby 5.1) and a story that rattles along at a good pace.Oh yeah,not forgetting a pig that eats birds. Cool
A great family film. Very Happy

I watched my all time favorite Christmas film last night.
"White Christmas" with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen.

As far as I am concerned, it isnt Christmas until I watch that film.

Burn After Reading

Favorite line.....

John Malkovich quit his job at the CIA, at least partly because he was told he had a drinking problem.

His wife, Tilda Swinton arrives home, but won't let Malkovich get a word in edgewise to tell her the news, because she's distraught over the fact he didn't pick up "the cheeses" for the party that night.

Afterwards while getting ready for bed, he tells her. She's screaming at him saying "Why didn't you TELL me?"

"I did, I did but then....."

"What, you became aphasic?"

SPOILER ALERT!
I hadn't gone the movies in ages. Christmas Day presented a good opportunity to remediate that deficiency. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is an entertaining chick flick. It's only tie to the Fitzgerald short story is that the protagonist ages backwards. Fitzgerald's story wouldn't make for a particularly good chick flick, however. In the movie I didn't like how Button abandons his family ostensibly because wants to avoid being a burden on his wife as he ages younger and younger. He doesn't want to become a playmate to his daughter. So, he picks up and leaves and lives his own life travelling the world. What sacrifice. He winds up back in his ex's life and she takes care of him as he ages into a child, and then an infant when he dies. A recurring theme is the humorous illustration of some old timers' tall tales being struck by lightning. Tilda Swinton makes an appearance in the movie. Seeing her in this movie reminded me of the movie she did about a fantastical character, Orlando.

@Paaskynen,
- Hancock (2008, had its moments but was too childish)
- WALL·E (2008, totally charming and innocent)
- London (2005, the director probably had a deep drama about love and the meaning of life in mind, but came up with f*cking ****)
- The Oh in Ohio (2006, comedy with no sense of direction, the ending seems taped on)
- Love Actually (2003, my favourite Christmas film)
- Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008, built for the effects, storyline atrophied, uninspired and lame)
- The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008, way more nicely done than the above)

I have had a cardinal rule to not watch Vietnam flicks. Last night, I broke it and watched Born on the 4th of July. I'm glad I did. I made this same post elsewhere on a2k, but could not resist adding it here.

We don't go to the movies much anymore but do have Showtime and HBO, so our favorite latests are Charlie Wilson's War and I am Legend.

Charlie Wilson was actually my Congressman until I moved to West Texas in 1986, shortly before the events in the film take place. I met him a handful of times; the first was at my high school in the early '70's, where he spoke to assembled students and faculty in the gymnasium. He's still with us, though he had a heart transplant in the months preceding the release of the movie last year.

@edgarblythe,
Must have been a good reason to break your rule Ed.I'm glad you did and that you enjoyed.
Memento Mori....boy,was I disappointed with this film.Bored,bored,bored,from start to finish.
Pride and Prejudice....not the 5 hour BBC TV version but the one with 3 amazing actresses-Judi Dench,Brenda Blethyn and Keira Knightly.A very enjoyable costume drama.
