"A Walk on The Moon" with Diane Lane, Viggo Mortensen
A good movie to watch with the fireplace going and someone to cuddle with on the couch. Dustin Hoffman wrote and produced it.

Yeah, I've been revisiting some old movies I've seen because I'm just now getting them on DVD.

One devasatingly good movie is In The Company of Men, an allegory of the ultra-competitiveness of the corporate male.

Yeah The Company Of Men left me with a horrible feeling but was a really good film.

I saw Superbad the other night. Quite funny.

Saw 1408 yesterday. I thought it was pretty good. Quite spooky. Anybody read the Stephen King story it's based on?

Tried to watch Atonement yesterday too but I got fed up half way through cos it's a love story and I'm all single and cynical and Kiera Knightly's face was getting on my nerves.

I laughed, I cried, I reveled in the joy of it. I think that it is a wonderful film!

Just taken ATONEMENT out of the player and I'm probably gonna be a lone voice here but I didn't think it was anything special.Admittedly,it is well acted and looks very good but I thought the story average at best.

Hey Baz, did you not spot my post about Atonement a couple of days ago on this thread (just look up)? I was also unimpressed.

Sorry DP,I didn't think that you saw it to the end Embarrassed .
I found the first half (the girly bit) hard going. It had a kind of "I've seen it all before" feel about it e.g. English summer, big country mansion, rich people with not a lot to do.The last half (the guys bit) didn't do a lot for me either which is strange as I usually enjoy a story which includes a bit of blood and guts.
It's only redeeming feature was finding 3 actresses so facially alike to play Briony,or was that just down to them having the same hairstyle  .
Seeing as this film has had so much praise heaped upon it,I was surprised that I found it to be such a big let-down.

No I didn't see it to the end but I was not impressed with the hour or so I sat through.

Not really into period dramas so I'm not sure why I rented it. Probably because everybody had been raving about it so I thought I should.

Just finished watching "El Cantante" with J Lo and Marc Anthony. It's the story of salsa legend Hector Lavoe. The usual ups and downs, drugs, booze, bad relationships, suicide attempt. He finally died of AIDS, attributed to his heroine use.
The music was fabulous. If you like salsa. And who doesn't?

The other day I saw Team America, a spoof of the squeaky clean supermarionation series the Thunderbirds. It was hilarious and one of a kind (which means that a sequel would be decidedly unfunny).

And the Statue of Liberty was featured! Very Happy

Yesterday in the grocery store I ran across "The Majestic" with Jim Carey for 9.99. I was so excited and last night my husband and I watched it. For some odd reason, it wasn't as good as we both recalled. I almost fell asleep a few times. How can that be? I loved it when it first came on cable. Watched it over and over. Now I wish I could return it. Confused

This weekend I saw
- 10: It was a trip down memory lane. Imagine Dudley Moore's (rip) character having an 8-track in his car! The hair and glasses were also awfully recognisable. Bo Derek was as plastic as I remembered her (in an earlier age we would have said "wooden").
- The Shipping News: Good enough to make me stay up late.

We've had mostly educational movies playing this weekend. My daughter
wanted to see The diaries of Anne Frank and Freedom Writer
and since she's learning about Alexander the Great, she wanted to see
Alexander the Great too.

"American Gangster". Another stellar performance by Denzel Washington but...

"Gypsy" with Bette Midler. I love Bette but Rosalind Russell owns Madam Rose from beginning to end. My favorite scene is still the "You Gotta Have a Gimmick" number with the three strippers altho' these three were not quite as glamorous as in the 1962 version.

I must confess to a little secret, I like the older TV.

I just bought season 2 of "Beauty and the Beast", with Linda Hamilton and Ron Pearlman.
I watched the first disc in the set last night, the first 4 episodes of season 2.

I already have season 1 on DVD.

The last movie I watched on DVD was "Jaws".
It is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.

Of course, I grew up on the ocean and know better then to think it was in any way real.

There is historical precedent for a Great White stalking a specific shoreline, but, of course, Benchley elaborated on his research on the book and the movie would have been pretty dull if he hadn't. There were a few funny lines, but my first exposure to the film was in Hawaii. We were scheduling some snorkeling on Hanama Bay the next day so planned to see "Roller Ball." Dinner took a bit too long, so we missed it and went to see "Jaws." My partner walked out into the lobby after the movie and loudly announced, "Anybody want to buy some snorkeling equipment?"

Spielberg managed to come close to the psychologically terrifying pace of the book and the special effects were state-of-the-art for that era.

Of course, it's not nearly as scary as the first time one sees it.
