I revisited the thoroughly Finnish road movie Menolippu Mombasaan (One-Way Ticket to Mombasa, 2002), which never gets anywhere close to Mombasa, but which I find a very palatable flick nonetheless.

A sweet one, eoe.

Boondock Saints

(formulaic, completely unbelievable, but I liked it. A sucker for the Irish, I guess...)

Rewatched Fight Club... yeah. Really love it.

I quite liked The Lady in the Water. It is an original fairy tale for children with some scary elements and some humour and a moral.

Avanti! with Jack Lemmon and Juliet Mills. One of my favourites. I just bought the DVD and this is the first time I saw the original version in English. I know the German dialogues by heart so now I know they did a pretty good job with the translation.

This weekend I saw:
1. Otoko-tachi no Yamato (2005), a passable Japanese war film. The hardware of the sets (i.e. superbattleship Yamato) was obviously hard to recreate on the budget they had, but they did their best.
2. Spanglish (2004), quite a nice flick with a good moral.
3. La tigre e la neve (2005), Roberto Benigni remains endearing in an agitated clumsy way in this romantic comedy.

Last night I saw "The River", a 1951 movie about growing up in India, directed by Jean Renoir, the son of the Impressionist painter:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043972/

There is no way of describing this film, which is gorgeous in all its Technicolor glory. To me it was like a poem, ebbing and flowing, like the river. A must see!
