@edgarblythe,
Well ed--the guy was either joking or he thinks his audience is as dumb as he is.

I prefer to think the former. One wouldn't wish to think that dumb people are allowed to broadcast.

@edgarblythe,
I confess I was wondering which 'literal interpretation' of the bible the purse offerer meant.

@hingehead,
Proving the negative must be the name of the game, once more.

@pgardner31,
Evolution does not address the god question.

@edgarblythe,
And, I have faith that it does edgar. Mostly belief and some science. I call it the god particle, some call it the soul, intelligence, compassion.

I love the way the Baptists speak. They call evolution quasi scientific and then use the pjhrase "evidential necessity". Show me evidential necessity or leave me alone

Quote:

... Evolutionists for nonscientific reasons have erroneously discarded the Genesis account and, equally erroneously, religionists have discarded evolution as being contradictory to a Genesis account.
this is a nice way of saying the two stories disagree almost entirely. EVolution has several lines of unassailable evidence (its a bugaboo of small minds I know, but evidence is always preferable to hearsay)

Quote:
If the Bible is the Word of God, then science cannot help but substantiate its validity- there should be no actual conflict between the two.
Except that one spends all its time researching evidence and making predictions (guess?) and the other is a fable concocted in a tent over 2500 years ago by nomadic herders.
Sounds like religion, after almost two centuries of excoriating evolution, is trying to "make up' because the evidence supporting evolution and Uniformatarianism is so mountainous that most mainstream religions have given up fighting it and instead, have pretty good biology and geology departments in their sectarian colleges. Do you know what they do teach instead? Are there books that have been rewritten to accept that, that is "not godly" - real and turn that that needs to be "godly" - godly?

@BillW,
You don't wanna ask me since its been a "hobby" of mine to collect and review literature from Creationist and Intelligent Design viepoints. You've asked me what time it is and I will now start telling you how to make a watch.

Or Not

There are a number of very very gaudy, highly glossy bullshit publications about "Creation SCience" and Intelligent Design. Starting with the anti modernist works and writings of George McReady Price
Evolutionary Geology and the New Catastrophism (this book is an apologia for a
total Creationist sorting out of the planet Earth, thence on to Whitcomb and Morris'The GENESIS FLOOD The Biblical Record and its SCientific Implications This one doesn't even tend to give science any credit but immediately starts slamming biology and geology like all those hundreds of thousands of scientists have no clue as to what their craft is about. (Morris was a civil engineering professor at Blacksburg Va and Whitcomb was a failed school teacher)
Many, many , many other books, so conceived as to assert that Genesis is completely true scientifically , are available for text resources for these "college science programs" (Many of the science programs of many of these schools ARE NOT ACCREDITED).

I get real wound up on this so lets say there are more books without a smack of science used by these schools

@farmerman,
You know, this is so subjective, I don't care what anyone else thinks on this, really - I just base opini0n on what I believe from worldly experiences.....

Understand, I do care what you and others say about the subject too!

There is no evidential necessity for the existence of God. If you think you've got some, then let's hear it.

Using the text above, i did a literal word search, and got three hits, the last of which is to Smashwords-dot-com, a self-publishing site. It is entirely possible that Gardner is the author of this dreck, and is just pasting his drivel here, and probably many other places online. The text above comes from a text entitled: A Message for the Human Race A. Christian Copyright . . . The title may be longer, but it gets cut off on the search results page. I was unable to open that search hit.

A little further digging yields this:

"A MESSAGE
FOR THE
HUMAN RACE

A. Christian
Copyright © 1985 by A. Christian"

I guess this joker doesn't want to put a real name to his/her authorship of this "book."
