Old stuff:

The original teacher's desk. Over the years successive teachers wrote their name in the bottom of the centre drawer and the years in which they taught. Pretty cool.

This cast iron vent was in the original floor under the original wood stove. There were wooden box-like "vents" under the building to draw fresh air in for the wood stove. We added 4 wine corks as feet to turn it into a trivet.

These tools came in handy for our latest project. (Haven't got all the photos downloaded, er, uploaded?, yet but I will.) The angle thingy at the top belonged to my grandfather and has the name of the lumber company he worked for stamped on one end. (If anyone knows its proper name I'd love to know.) The compass has a grease pencil instead of chalk as Mr Fix-it used it to draw circles on steel roofing. My mom used it when she taught school. The plumb at the bottom belonged to Mr Fix-it's dad. I guess by now it's obvious we like old things.

Load of wood for the sauna shed:
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o235/taichi_photos/IMG_0314.jpg?t=1277060332

(Our sawmill guy lent us his truck. Wood to play with and a great big truck -- Mr Fix-it was like a kid in a candy store.)

Building the sauna deck:
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o235/taichi_photos/IMG_0317.jpg?t=1277060601

The cedar slab in the background will be used in the wood stove. The good news? It's free!

Just one big billboard...
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o235/taichi_photos/IMG_0339.jpg?t=1277060601

The little "window" in front will be screened for fresh air with a wooden shutter inside.

The lean-to is an eventual tear-down. So we robbed Peter...

<snort> That's so last year, RH. It'll be stained once we get back and there'll be a sign. Wait and see. Very Happy

Staining the sauna. It took two coats!

Done! (It's a semi-transparent stain, so, yes, it's supposed to look like that Wink )

The metal strips on the corners are to discourage our local porcupine from turning it into a huge snack.

Took a walk to the lake north of us one day. These are the limestone cliffs across the bay at our end of the lake.

I've posted photos of cute little garter snakes. This is not the shed skin of a cute little snake:
http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o235/taichi_photos/IMG_0411.jpg?t=1280027780

I've seen it. I just don't recognize it. (The whole time I watched it hunting the theme from "Jaws" was playing in my head...)
