That's a kind of dumb slogan, it appears to me. And a dishonest one.

"Support our troops" is a smokescreen for and a diversion from the main issue, the decisions of the numbskulls who put them where they are.

"Support Our Troops" could just as well be intended to mean "Please don't blame me for the awful situation our boys are in although I voted Republican"

There's no-one who doesn't support the troops. But Bush should still be held accountable for his crimes.

McT, Precisely! They try their hardest to divert the issues, but never bother to look for the facts how Bush cut funding for veteran's benefits.

Wrong, McT. There are quite a number of leftists who do not support the troops. Who want the US to lose the war in Iraq, in fact. Some are willing to admit it, and of course some are not.

Right on. Also it is empty rhetoric to say one supports the troops but then accuses them of all manner of atrocities, proclaims their efforts to be a failure, and denounces their actions in a war situation while failing to acknowledge any of the positives/accomplishments. (And also funding for Veterans was shifted around somewhat, but it has increased enormously during the Bush administration.)

I am surprised by the lack of a Waltism (tm) about Santa not being real and therefore the cartoon is invalid.

I was taught that Santa is real as long as you believe he is real. I taught that to my kids who are now all grown up professionals in their fields and who still tack up their stocking on Christmas Eve.

That's our story and we're sticking to it.

(I also think Santa supports our troops.)

St. Nicholas brings small, sweet presents on December 6 and the Christ Child on Christmas Eve.

Those, who don't believe that, get nothing.

Okay. That counts.

(Psscht, McG: you can start doing such much earlier: little angles [those, who help and e.g. bake cookies etc] bring small presents as well. But don't leave two or even more shoes outside: you get nothing, and that for days!!!)

I thought Bushco was cutting vet's pensions and compensations? I saw c.i. writing about that- or was it soldiers' pay? Anyway, very far from "enormous increases". Presumably injuries compensation has increased enormously, and deaths payments to families.

Plenty of atrocities reported in the news right now, but that is picking up reports of the Marine Corps own proceedings. No lefty bias there, I hope you'll allow.

I am sure you can post links to valid sources that solders' pay and/or pensions and compensations have been in any way infringed?

I will impose on c.i. to do that, please, if I may c.i..

It is out there, maybe he can find it quicker.

I googled "Bush cuts soldiers' pay" and got 1690000 hits, including

I do not consider Commondreams to be a valid source for anything, much less anything reported re any U.S. policy.

I do consider Factcheck.org to be a valid source so check this:

and the DAV's own newsletter reports:

Also McTag, here's a summary of HR Bill 2297 passed early in George Bush's term of office:

http://www.house.gov/chrissmith/news/press2003/pr2297.htm

It will be fascinating to see how many bills the Democrat majority will initiate to benefit veterans after them excoriating the Bush administration for "not doing so".
